A backup camera or observation camera on a fiver

Actually, the main differences between the "backup" and "observation" cameras are the resolution and frame rates - the observation cameras giving higher quality images. Depending on how they are wired, either can give full-time viewing.

That said, we've had a Furrion wireless observation system on our fifth wheel for about three years. I don't find it quite as useful when backing as having my wife back there with a two-way radio (though I do use the camera, as well). I do find it very useful, however, on the highway to know when I'm well clear of a semi I'm passing to pull back over safely. On travel days, my wife follows in a chase car (we're full-timers) and the camera system is handy to make sure she's still back there in traffic such as in town, etc.

The monitor for our Furrion system just died and I have a replacement system on the way. It's a newer, "upgraded" system with higher resolution and contrast and strong wireless signal. It also has a microphone in the camera and a speaker in the monitor... we'll see if that replaces the two-way radios. My wife is a pretty darn good spotter.

Our Grand Design came pre-wired and with a Furrion mount installed, so installation was a breeze (did it myself). I've wired it to the running lights so the camera is not on 24/7 but only comes on when I turn the running lights on in the truck (I always drive with lights on).

I have the observation system also and it has performed flawless. The wireless works on my 32' and the monitor came with a mount for the windshield. Very clear.

Same here on Furrion...I bought the observation primarily because price difference was negligible compared to backup. Mine is prewired into marker lights, so it’s always on as long as truck lights are on. I generally use mine only for backing, but it’s nice to have if I manage to not avoid heavy traffic in cities.

Only issue I’ve had was the monitor getting stolen out of my truck, and Furrion was very helpful with replacement.

I have a 40' 5er and don't see the need for a BU camera. I have a wife.

Give the guys at RVCams a call. They have solutions for every rig. Great customer service.

I couldn’t afford the good Furrions or others so I bought a wired camera, extension wires and a monitor off Amazon. Plugs into the lighter socket and works well. Easy install I did myself.

I have a Furrion on the new GD TT. I like the great wireless signal. I don't like the small monitor. The 89dollar unit I put on my last TT had a better screen ( view wise ), 7 inches vs 4, big difference.

I think Furrion offers a larger screen. If I were buy another one it would have a larger screen.

The nice thing about the camera is that you can turn IT off.

another vote here for the furrion wireless observation.

i had it on our previous 33ft TT and now have it on our current 37ft TT. i use it along with my wife for backing into tight spots. she does a good job with directions. it does help at times on the highway with lane changes. never have a problem with signal loss. small screen size is only negative i can say.
