almost lost it

A post on the ball nut coming off reminded me of this....

We came back from camping last weekend. We had pulled both the trailer and the boat. Now then, we first unhooked the boat from trailer and left it out front. Then we remove the hitch from receiver on trailer. Then the trailer gets parked in it's spot. The hitch is removed from the truck that pulls the TT and the one put in the truck receiver for the boat. Then the boat is parked. We then remove hitch from truck so we are not driving with this huge thing out the back for me to knock my shins on..

Forward to tuesday....I was out and a little warning message was popping up on the dash about the back up camera on truck not working properly due to obstruction. I looked and yes it was, I saw everything fine. When hubby got home I asked him what this message was all about. He went out and all I heard was #*@+**! When we had unhooked the boat we had removed the pin and got distracted and left the hitch in. As I had been driving it had slowly moved outward enough that the sensor caught it and therefore the message. I had seen the hitch when I checked the camera and thought, I only have to remember it is there so I don't hit my shins on it, LOL.

The big problem that created the #*@**#*! was that it was about 1/2 inch from falling out. We have never done anything like this before. We both felt guilty as we normally both check everything. just a reminder...check things twice..or should that be thrice ,LOL :S
  • My wife was behind a pickup who lost their hitch. She could not miss it and we ended up with @$1000 damage to transmission and front suspension. It was fortunate that he stopped to get his hitch so we got his license and insurance information who paid for the damage. Check your hitch pins!
  • Good thing for the camera sensor or you would have been buying a new one. It might have ruined some one else's day after running over it on the highway.
