Aluminum Exterior Molding - Flexible and Shape-Able

I'm posting here to try and get as wide an audience for my question as possible. This is about vintage style aluminum molding.

Today's exterior RV trim is commonly still aluminum, painted or otherwise, and also in plastic and vinyl. The aluminum stuff is available in a variety of profiles, but its one main property making it unsuitable for my application is that it is rigid. Minor bends or curves maybe, but not flexible as I need.

My vintage truck camper has both an outside corner molding (L shape 3/4" x 3/8"), and a drip edge/gutter molding (J shape 3/4" x 3/8"). The camper resembles a sheep herders wagon or gypsy wagon shape. This stuff is VERY flexible and bends into a new shape quite readily.

What are the Internet search words I need to locate what must STILL be available - rolled aluminum and flexible (I think annealed is the correct term, but not having any luck with that either). Brand names fine too. What are your experiences with this stuff and its availability?

I am currently into the tedious job of re-claiming the existing/original trim, and depending on price, might just re-use the existing trim anyway. But I don't want to continue this path just to find out what I need is commonly available and inexpensive.

RV shops in my town have no idea because it's not in the RV catalog.

Do you know?
  • Thanks Chris. I looked it over. It seems to be the same rigid stuff widely available online and at local RV shops. Yes, I need a substance that is MUCH more flexible than the little (and questionable) amount you can get with lots of heat and lots of patience.

On one blog somebody said, "Not too much heat or you'll end up with a wet noodle". I don't want a wet noodle, and I'm not sure exactly what they meant by that, but the flexibility of my original stuff is closer to a wet noodle than it is to a modern stick of extruded aluminum.

Surely someone must remember this stuff. It was on RV's not so long ago. Mine is a 1968.
