They announced on the news that the Coffeyville Kansas Amazon location will close after this season. I know there are a lot that work there and will be sad to hear this. Its sad for that area, because there are not a lot of jobs.

right.. that is what i was thinking. straw would work just as well for a lot less than hay.. but if you ask most people they call them hay bails... ๐Ÿ™‚

There is a huge difference between hay and straw bales. Straw has no food value therefore is cheaper. Hay bales will be far more expensive than straw.

that is interesting about the hay bales.. I have seen stuff on TV where homes are built with hay bales and they are very warm inside during cold winters with little heat..

wonder how much it cost to get hay bales.. I seem to remember seeing them in my area for like 3 to 4 bucks a bale or so. I guess you would need 10-15 to more or less. I bet you can get them your self and save a bit of cash. Most of the time that is a straw hay and not really for animal eating more for bedding and such.

hope to make it to amazon when we go fulltime in 5 or so years.

If you let them. Best thing to do is work around them and press on doing your own work the best you can.

Oh, and YES I have and AM working at an Amazon facility.

I loved the job there as a picker, just couldn't tolerate the stowers not following the rules and intentionally clogging up the aisles. Plus I didn't want to risk damage to the trailer with what seems to be constant storms coming through there, and damage from temps below 20 degrees.

Amazon is part of my plan for next year unless I hear too many reports of people not getting any hours. I'm hoping they'll open up a more southerly warehouse to workampers.

Maybe Amazon should not be part of your plan at anytime considering your statement above. To me it does not show a good cooperative team work attitude and singles out one class of workers as bad workers that are rule breakers.

Agreed. One MUST be as cooperative as possible in the plant during "Peak" as there are a lot more people running around inside.

AND there are simple things that can be done to alleviate the effects of cold weather. Four years ago I worked in Campbellsville and learned a lot about the limitations of my rig. I learned I had to let water trickle in the shower and leave the gray tank open to prevent freezing of some tubing that runs under the floor. This year I installed a heat tape to prevent freezing.

Another person I know had a custom heavy vinyl skirting made to snap on and enclose the sides of his rig from the lowest point of the box to the ground. Yet another had some hay bails delivered and put them around his rig and donated them to a farm when he left.

As for storms... you can have them when you are recreational camping as well. Things and weather happen!

I suspect that Amazon is having a hard time getting workampers. Another issue is that Amazon can't get along with local RV Parks and people have to drive so far. Cuts into the money earned. That was certainly a factor in me not going to Coffeyville!!!!!!

I think your reference may be to the Murfreesboro facility.

The camp grounds are a long way from the plant.

As far as Amazon not getting along with the local camp grounds, That is not true at all. Generally those camp grounds would normally be shutting down for winter about the time the work campers pull in.

These camp grounds really appreciate the extended income provided by virtually guaranteed full camp grounds from October through December. ALSO, the camp ground operators seem to really enjoy having the Camperforce folks. Many campers return year after year, they generally leave things better than they found them, they spend less time in the camp ground than regular campers and they are very cognizant of the others in the camp ground as most everyone is working at the same place. Most Camperforce visitors to a park are MUCH more self-sufficient and tend not to go running to the camp ground operator for every little thing and have no problem helping the staff to rectify a problem instead of standing around watching them do it.

I have heard all this and more from three of the camp grounds in this area and they all really enjoy the Camperforce season.

The campgrounds had nothing to do with Amazon's decision to close Coffeyville. There are several good campgrounds there, Buckeye, Heritage and the city park. Amazon is starting to put their fulfillment centers in larger cities to best meet the customer's needs.
Oh and by the way restless in florida, you don't need to come to Campbellsville with that attitude. The stowers and ICQA are just trying to do their jobs also.

Yes I did work there and I just guess that our perspectives are different because I never saw any of what you saw no hiding or hoarding.

Also the Big Chief Campground across the street is no longer used by Amazon so that puts the nearest campground at I guess 4 miles.

But there was one thing I did see was the folks sitting in the isle but that was due to them having to pull a entire bin on the bottom and restack and count it but they did leave room for a person with a cart to go by.
