I have a small TT, 3000 LBS, I want to buy a WDH, I looked at Reese, Curt and others. I just got across the Andersen WDH, is it worth it????

For that light of a TT it would be perfect. Clean, quiet and light weight.

Ditto on the clean, quiet, and lite weight. About sixty pounds and uses no lubricant. I use one, with a much heavier trailer. My loaded weight is 7320 lbs.
  • Definitely. I had one for my 2700 lb TT, and when I sold the TT the buyer wanted the Andersen as well.
  • We used an Andersen hitch towing from Florida to Arizona and Utah. Hitch was excellent.
  • I need to buy a WDH for a new TT I'm in the process of purchasing. I've owned a 5th wheel and Class A but this is my first pull behind trailer so I started with zero knowledge of WDH's and a lot of online research followed. The new design of the Andersen hitch seemed appealing and I spent a lot of time trying to find reviews by actual owners of their experiences with the hitch. I looked at several threads on various RV forums but the majority of the posts were not by owners with actual experience with the Andersen hitch.

The largest collection of reviews by owners I could find turned out to be on Amazon. There were 18 reviews, 15 of the 18 being by verified purchasers of the Andersen hitch. Using Amazon's 1 though 5 rating system, 5 being the highest, fourteen of the 18 reviewers gave the hitch a 5 rating and the other four a 4 rating. The comments were uniformly positive.

I also visited the largest RV dealer in eastern Idaho (at least I think they're the largest), inspected an Andersen hitch on display, and discussed the hitch with a dealership sales representative. He told me that the Andersen hitch is the only WDH they now stock, although they can order any one a customer wants, have sold "a lot" of the Andersen's, and have not had one return or complaint. In an attempt to be impartial, I should note that the dealership is in Idaho Falls, the same small city that Andersen is located, so there could be some bias involved, or perhaps not.

I have some time before I actually pickup my new trailer and will not make a final decision immediately. I am aware that it is said by some that with heavier trailers the Andersen may not provide adequate weight distribution, but the trailer I am purchasing is a 28 ft. ultralight (4700 lb. dry wt) so I don't believe this will be a problem with my rig.

  • We tow an 8500 lb. tt with a f250 and an Andersen hitch. We have had no problems with it at all, very user friendly. Hate to confess to it but just last weekend we towed in some 55 mph gusts hitting us broadside, yes we could occasionally feel it but it was never unruly. Friends driving behind us in their 5ver said they could see our tt get slightly out of line but quickly get corrected, never looked or felt hazardous. We really like our Andersen!

I think an Anderson would be great for that size of trailer.
