We are getting a new RV on a Ford chassis and it comes with the typical Ford 5 yr warranty including roadside assistance. My concern is that the "new" thought on RV's (C's and up) is that they don't come with spare tires. Argument is, "who can change a tire on one of these anyway?", but actually is a cost/profit thing in my opinion. But anyway I want to know your opinions about an additional roadside assistance plan, i.e. Good Sam, Coach Net, whatever. Really don't want to spend the money, but would like to have the peace of mind.Been on the road in our previous B for over 5 years and the only tire issue was once and it only required a plug that lasted until we sold it.If you agree that a supplemental plan, one more aimed toward RV's, would be best which would your recommend and why.thanks

If you get 5 years from Ford, just figure on paying for a flat tire if it happens. Honestly, unless you run over something or just don't check your tire pressure ever, you probably won't get a flat. Go the 5 years and then get Coach-Net.

Good Sam and Coach-net are probably the most popular. Compare their policies and pick the one you like best.You will hear pros and cons on both.When you consider the price of a new RV, the roadside assistance policy is very cheap. Especially if you want peace of mind.And I agree, eliminating the spare tire is for profit.

Check the coverage you're getting from Ford. I don't know if it's still current, but Ford has been using Coach-Net for at least some of their truck ERS for a number of years. I'm sure the coverage is different than the retail consumer plans, but you may have better coverage than you think. Keep in mind that none of the ERS plans will supply a replacement tire as part of the plan. They may have one brought to you at no cost for the service call, but the tire itself will be on your dime.

I recently ran into a fellow camper that arrived late one night. He was telling me how he had a blow out on the ride down. He had Coach-net and a unmounted spare. Coach-net covered everything except a $100 charge he had to pay the tire guy to unmount the flat tire and mount his spare.Our AAA Plus with RV will change a spare at no cost to us, however it has to be a mounted spare. They won't cover putting a tire on a wheel. Our Motorhome came with a mounted spare.-Michael

SO ,I bought a tire no rim ,had a vinyl bag made for it mounted on the roof so if I did have a flat I,d have a matching tire. and not a china bomb the tow company would have to buy and bring to me. at a blown up price. p.s. if you get a flat after 5pm your gonna wait till the next for a tire store to open.

Never a flat tire? Don't kid yourself. I've had two in 15 years. Both nails and both found out about before I pulled out of my spot in the morning. I carry a spare (Michliens 225/16 LT) so yes it does happen. I changed it myself on the spot rather than waiting for Good Sam to find somebody. I have used GS and find the price to be worth the piece of mind. If I had a flat/blowout on the highway, no way would I change it myself. No with all the NUTS out there that don't observe SLOW DOWN/MOVE OVER.

Can't speak to what your getting with the 5 year warranty, but I broke down on New Years day, in the middle of nowhwere. I have Coach Net and I have my insurance company which also has towing. Insurance company max for towing is $100. So, Coachnet would cover towing my truck and TT (both) to the nearest dealer, but I wanted to take it home instead. I paid the difference ($65) and filed the difference with my insurance company, which they paid. Then, my warranty for my truck towed me free of charge to the dealer the next day.

Having all three was worth it for me. Would have cost me quite a bit more had I not had Coach Net

Our insurance offers it as a rider. We have it and used it a few years ago with a flat tire. It worked flawlessly at no cost to us. It costs less that $40 a year to add it to our policy. They will also arrange a fix for you even if the vehicle in question is not insured with them albeit at your cost.

A zillion years ago, flat tires were very common, and spare tires were a necessity. Tires have evolved remarkedly over the years, and now not only do they last literally 10 times longer, but they rarely succumb to a flat. When was the last time you had a flat tire that left you stranded? With a road side service provider, you really do not need to haul around that spare tire that will never see earth.

Also check to see if the Ford supplied service includes towing after an accident. Many times it does not so you would need your own ERS service after an accident or anything that did not involve a mechanical breakdown.

For the yearly charge the $79- $109 is worth it just for the peace of mind ! JMHO
