Well, since we didn't make it to a campground this year I miss all the people watching. Anyone have any experiences to share from there holiday trips?

Bringing back an old one but it is still relevant.

We enjoyed 3 nights at the local state park. I had reserved one of the best lake front spots 6 months ago. We do this because it is the best time to get the grand-kids each out to the park close to mommy and daddy if needed. It was a little crowded but our loop was really nice. Great folks on both sides of us. Now to set a reminder to grab this spot again next year that is just 10 miles from home.

Had a great time! My wife and I have been married for five years and we have a soon to be two year old boy. So last year I knew I had to buy a camper! He was 8 months old on his first camping trip last year. We went to a resort right on the Wisconsin River. They had a kiddie pool which he loved. I just had foot surgery so I couldn't get in with him. Last year during the 4th of July week he was in the hospital for a week battling bronchilitis. It was in the 100s last year. But this year he had a great time and got to see his first fireworks! Loved every moment of it being a dad!

Long trip Tues-Sun.

Great family, friends, food and fun. Lost one awning, gained many memories. Camp was crowded - Kids and bikes everywhere. Lake was not - DS learned to knee board. Fireworks over the lake. Neighbors were great. ๐Ÿ™‚

We had fun and had both family family at a local barrier island beach CG. The 4th was great because we had a pretty much unobstructed view of the fireworks from the mainland for a few miles in either direction.

Our highlights of the week were watching people just stuck driving on the beach. I think we counted about 10 people all week who got stuck, and that was just in our little viewing area with miles and miles of beach. Most times it was some small AWD vehicle that really had no business being on the very soft sand beach. Things like CRV's, Murano's, Santa Fe's, etc... My favorite was a Cherokee with big fat tires that pretty much completely dug his rear tires into the sand about 100' onto the beach. I can only assume he forgot to put it in four wheel drive.

Another favorite was people missing the turn for the campground. Trucks that want to drive on the beach and people wanting to enter the campground have to use the same guard booth entrance. Trucks going on the beach drive straight and follow the signs that say beach access and 4x4 only. Campers need to make an immediate left after passing the guard booth. There are multiple, clearly labeled signs complete with pictures of 4x4's for the beach access and campers for the camping section. lol We saw at least 3 regular cars trying to drive onto the beach because they didn't turn into the campground. They were able to drive a few hundred feet because it's hard packed dirt/sand before actually getting into the soft beach sand. One car got stuck and the park police came to push them out AND give them a ticket.

Lastly, this park's roads are one way only with arrows painted in the road every so often depicting one way. One night a car was going the wrong way AND traveling a little too fast. The campers he was passing were all yelling at him that he was going the wrong way and going too fast. All you heard the driver scream was "I know!" in response to the campers yelling at him. If he knew he was going the wrong way, why did he continue?

Ah, the highlights of my trip.....

I had a great time camping over the 4th. The wife and I took my two nieces and my dogs and spent 3 days at Fort Desoto park in St. Pete. Yes it was crowded and it rained a lot but we had a blast. The older I get the less I let things bother me so I don't pay much attention to some of the crazyness that happens occasionally on holiday weekends. I work long hours and am mostly a weekend warrior so anytime in the RV (and not working) is great for me. Holidays usually allow me another day in the RV.

We had a neighbor arrive w/ a popup, a passel of kids and 4 adults. The dad begins hooting and hollering about how he's a MAN AND DOESN'T NEED DIRECTIONS OR HELP. oooook. So mom starts about making lunch for the kiddies while the other two adults break out books and become oblivious to their crew. Mom mentions needing a knife 1800 times, but can't get a knife because it's in the camper which dad still hasn't successfully popped up yet. After the 1801st mention, I bring over a knife because otherwise I'm about to use it for something other than cutting produce. ๐Ÿ˜‰

They proceeded to argue and fight the entire weekend. Blissfully, we had a full agenda of sightseeing already planned, so we didn't have to listen to a whole lot of it.

I camp for relaxation. We do go to a local Yogi Bear at once per season so the kids can do all the kid stuff but generally I hate crowded anything, not just CG. We camped over the 4th last year and while it was a great time I think it broke my father's heart that his place was not filled with the usual celebration. We went back home this year without the TT. Generally don't camp over the 4th. But we did have some fun. Except for the mosquitoes that are seemingly unaffected by any bug spray this summer.

2 things I do NOT do on holidays - go to the lake or go camping! Booze, heat and crowds do not always make for a good time for all.

Nope stayed home and had a family get together. We ran into trouble with campers any way. High 80's 92% humidity, two state parks and three private campgrounds in the immediate vicinity. Three places in town to buy ice, all had sold out to campers. Thank goodness for cell phones. My brother was driving in from some distance. I was able to contact him, and he got 18 bags of ice while going thru a large town on the way.
Dang campers!

we had a great time at our local COE park. Does that mean I was bothering everybody else? LOL.

Why is it that when campers have a party, they are told to hold it down, but when somebody rents a pavillion they can bring a DJ and Kenny Chesney sized speakers and just tear it up? This is before quiet time by the way. Great weekend though, and glad that the 250 family members involved could get together. They even had at least one charter bus. This was at a MD state park, but it happens in VA parks as well.

We had a great time here in the north east. The CG we were at was probably only 80% full and there were no major issues. Like a lot of other places, we have had almost zero days without rain in the last month and I think it kept a lot of people home. The weather report wasn't great, but ended up being virtually rain free.

I went fishing with my kids and almost got run over :B J/K LOL

It rained so much here that I cannot get my camper out of my yard because it is a swamp. So we had to cancel our trip, but we still had a BBQ, fireworks and some fun.
