Any reason to keep the battery ?

We have a new trailer that we will be keeping permanently on our RV site and never moving it.
We will just use it for snow birding six months each year.

Is there any reason for maintaining and keeping the battery?

I realize that if we lost the AC voltage for some reason it would be handy, but we wouldn't be staying in it for any length of time if that happened.

I am mainly thinkin of April when we leave and head north, to just disconnect it and forget about it.

I'm sorry but this is not entirely correct. Many newer converters used in the last ten years have sufficient filtering and have no need for a battery to further reduce ripple/noise.

To the OP, we cannot answer your question without knowing what converter you have.
However, the most obvious sign you need a battery is if you remove it and find you have lines in your TV or buzzing sounds coming from the radio or even some light fixtures.

  • The lights, water pump, fridge and gas furnace are all powered by 12VDC OR need 12DC to operate their electronic innards (fridge and furnace--even on propane). IF your converter will run without an attached battery and IF you can do without all those things when the power goes out, then yes, you can forget the battery.

We live in an earthquake zone and region at risk to forest fires, both of which could take the power out for some time. Our motorhome is always ready to live in off grid for several days.
