Anyone pulled over by CHP?

Never been bothered by the CHP in over 12 years and I drive 62-63 mpg. Speed limit while towing in Calif is 55. A buddy of mine is a CHP officer and he says he does not enforce the 55 mph rule if you're going with the flow of traffic and not REALLY speeding.

That is precisely why I just got my Class A Non-Commercial license. I just didn't want to fight City Hall. The cost was $34, but it was still a PITA. But now it is DONE. BTW, now most states have some sort of license weight requirements. But all states recognize the license of your home state.

Thats what I am tired of. The state just coming of with new fees (taxes) to build revenue. I paid the state to upgrade from a class C to a non commercial class B with restrictions (for work). I upgraded again to a commercial class B because they changed their system. Now I have to pay again to go camping in a RV? I have a class B, air brakes, tank, stopping distances, braking, general driving, pre-trip, etc.... So why do we have to do it all again, just to drive around a damn RV? No air brakes, still heavy, still top heavy, they still don't stop good, still requires you to think about where you are going, where to park, blind spots, same pre-trip, etc... Junk. And to put a cherry on top, They want me to pay $150 to register a 1966 Cadillac! 1966.

As We have been saying up north, it is time for the state of Jefferson. That would NEVER happen.

Easier to do as myself. I have a Class A with doubles and triples etc and it covers everything. Kind of like having a roofers card, it covers everything.

It's not likely any of this would be checked at all, unless there was an accident. That said, the only legally enforceable weight ratings are the axle rating and the tire rating.

True, but there are now rules for drivers license class that pertain to gvwr. Here in Nv any trailer over 10k gvwr requires an endorsement or Class A DL. If stopped for another reason you could conceivably be written up for not having correct DL.

GVWR is set by the manufacturer not by law. I spent many years as a LEO enforcing and teaching truck weight laws. You're not going to be stopped for GVWR.
It doesn't matter what kind of 5er you buy you're not going to be anywhere near over for legal axle or gross weight.

+2 on the hands on the wheel thing, if it's dark, it's nice to turn on a dome light to reduce nervousness on their part.

Remember, they never know what they're walking into.

Being courteous has helped keep me out of any tickets so far (no experience with CHP).
