asme tank handle

Ok, somewhere in the world is someone that has replaced their valve on an asme propane tank on a motor home. What to do with the old one?

Well, I had my motor home in to fix a propane leak. They found and fixed it. However, someone extremely strong shut off the tank. I had to use a channel lock to open the valve again. Which cracked the handle. Does anyone have an old, but ok, star shaped handle they would like to get rid of? I don't want to buy a whole new valve to get it. Or if someone can point me to somewhere to buy a new handle, I would appreciate that!

Or does the handle matter? I put one from an old 20# tank on it and it works fine. But it's the triangle shaped one instead of the star shape. I don't want to have trouble when I go to refill the tank.

Thanks!
  • All the triangle shaped knob indicates is that the cylinder/valve it came from was equipped with an OPD valve. Your ASME tank has one also, but it's a different type used on the separate fill port instead of the service valve where the handle goes. As said, not likely they'll even notice, but no harm done even if they do. If you really want one of the round style knobs, most LP bulk dealers usually have a bunch of junk pre-OPD cylinders piled up somewhere that I'm sure they'd let you pull one off of.
