Battery drain on Jeep cherokee

When we towed our Jeep Wrangler we normally unplugged the umbilical cord from the RV when we stopped at night. Now we purchased a 2015 Jeep Cherokee and had to have the wiring harness unit for the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) installed in order to safely tow the vehicle. The procedure would normally be to pull the 10 amp fuse from the wiring harness unit and unplug the car from the RV each night that we stopped. However, we installed a Brake Buddy Stealth which includes a battery maintainer powered off the RV so that the car battery does not go dead. We were thinking we could just leave the fuse in (for the EPS) at night and leave the car connected to the RV with the RV plugged into shore power thereby maintaining both the RV and car batteries. The reason we want to avoid having to pull the fuse every night we are on the road is because we would have to remove our Tow Car Shield that covers the hood and windshield in order to open the hood and remove the fuse.

Does this make sense?
Thanks
  • You can also buy or make a simple fuse disconnect switch mounted wherever convenient if that helps.
  • Glad you got your wiring harness! These Cherokees have been a real safety issue, but maybe FCA has come up with a solution. It is simple to run a charge wire from your motor home to keep your Cherokee charged.

We are on a trip and I have run into 4 Cherokee owners who knew nothing about the wobbling problem. Warned them and gave the what information I could since it seems the Jeep dealers are not telling them when they purchase.
  • I think your logic is correct assuming the battery maintainer operates at all times.
