I am at a campground hooked up to 30 amp service. When I opened up the front storage compartment to get a screwdriver I saw fumes coming from the battery? I checked the water levels and had to add a small amount of water. The battery is hot to the touch? This is the first time I noticed the problem. Any ideas, should I be concerned? As always thanks.

Another what everyone else said - and have a fire extiquisher handy but keep away from it while it cools down.

Before you connect up a new battery, have someone knowledgable in 12 volt electrical systems check everything. No need to blow away a brand new battery because of a short or a faulty converter.

What everyone else said, and the battery is junk, most likely internally shorted out and could blow. Be careful.

BE VERY CONCERNED! You could have an explosion. Unplug the RV from power and stay away from the battery. After the battery has cooled, disconnect the cables and have the battery tested.

DO NOT do anything near the battery until it has cooled!
Build a life you don't need a vacation from.

J MHO, Lead acid batteries, as in cars and tractors, give off hydrogen (and oxygen) when over charged and the combination is explosive if a spark ignites them… unplug the trailer at the CG power pedestal… do not disconnect the battery right away and cause that spark… the battery will go dead quickly if it has a dead short and it will cool down… that’s when to disconnect the battery…

Hi,

The fumes are poison. Disconnect the battery and replace.

Check the voltage from the converter.

YES you need to be concerned!!

Visible fumes coming from battery, battery hot to touch.

TURN OFF converter, disconnect battery (Ground cable first)

You have a bad battery...probably shorted cell
AND your converter may be overcharging.

BUT get that battery disconnected before it explodes.
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Remove battery and have it checked like at auto zone.

Disconnect that thing immediately. You have a shorted cell or converter failed to extremely high voltage
