What is the best & longest brand? Dry camping for 10 days - did the same last year & when we finally were able to empty our tanks, it was very odoriferous!

I'm sure you will get many suggestions, but I like Odorless RV holding tank treatment. Used it for years without any problems.

Good Luck

i think you mean Odorlos! if so, totally agree on it and CW is now carrying it, in various packaging.

I started off using just dawn and now I use dawn and pine-Sol. Most of the smell is gone or better then just using dawn.

We use a product manufactured by Camco, "TST" that does not use formaldahide and has a nice orange smell, Walmart sells it so it is rather easy to find and works even out in 115 degree heat, I use two of the drop in poughes when the weather is hot.

Dometic Full Time Holding Tank Treatment. Works the best we've found. We are full timers but I wish we had know about it when we were not full timing. Sometimes difficult to find but Camping World usually carries it.

There are as many answers as there are posters on this site ๐Ÿ™‚

We use Aqua-Kem Toss Ins. Before we leave I cut open the packet and dissolve it into a bucket of water. For long trips I use two packets.

Here's another vote for RV Digest-It.. I have been using this since last season and it really does do what they say it does. You can buy it on Amazon and you can read the reviews from users there. I am so glad I discovered this stuff.

This is the best I have used. Keeps odors to a minimum. Nothing will eliminate black tank odor.

It seems on the OP, that the stuff coming out of the black tank was odiferious when it was being dumped.

So what is the issue ?

I try to stay upwind and breath lightly when the poo poo is dumped.

As far as the length of time between dumps, we have gone between 3 and 4 weeks by using the head sparingly.

True, but this isn't an option for the OP who is boondocking.

Yes, sorry, I overlooked that small detail :S.

If you have the vents open and flush the toilet... bad odors come UP from the tank into the RV. I turn the ceiling vent (in the bathroom) off before I flush. (and when I'm dumping the tanks I make sure that all the ceiling vents are not running.)

I have used a couple of cups of pine sol on very hot stretches. Pour a good amount into the tank through the toilet. I don't use it on a regular basis but for those couple of hot weeks in the summer it sure seemed to ease the odor problem.

I use the Geo Method and also RV Digest-It. Any product with formaldehyde should be avoided as it kills the bacteria which in turn results in clogged sensors and gummed up holding tanks.

Agree, flushing with plenty of water is key to reducing odor.

I have used the blue stuff from Thetford for years with no problems.Pour in a couple ounces and a couple gallons of water and there you go. Someone gave me some citrus smelling stuff once and it did not do as well.
