In the past, we've used a product called 'Nature Zyme' and found it worked well in the black tank. I just learned this product has been discontinued and I'm in the market for a (good) replacement.It came in tablet form and was purchased on line. Please let me know if you also used it and have now found a similar product (no formaldehyde and 100 % biodegradable, etc.) which works as well.Thanks in advance.

a second vote for happy camper. pure power has a strong smell of it's own to put up with. I think I have used just about every thing on the market for the black tanks. happy camper is the best I've ever used. you can put it into the grey tanks too. it comes in powder form and easy to put down the drains.

I realize this wasn't your exact question, but have you ever considered not using any chemicals?

Don't Pee in the Pool -- apparently urine + chlorine creates nasty chemicals to swim in. However, I would never
recommend swimming in an RV holding tank, either before or after adding bleach.

Yes, I would not recommend hanging your head over a cat litter box while pouring bleach into it (or, for that matter, while not pouring bleach into it).

However, if you enclosed your litter box with a cover, then put a pipe on top to vent the fumes to the outside and made a cat door (where you'd pour the bleach in) that closed automatically, I think you'd be safe.

I found out the hard way it will.

I emptied a cat litter box and instead of using water I poured straight bleach into the 'empty' box and when it hit the residue of urine it sure did create a big poof of fumes.

Me too. The only additives that sometimes are in there is RV antifreeze in there from winterizing.

Never had a smell issue.
