Blue Ox Ad

Trailer Life magazine Jan 2016, page 19, has an ad that shows the incorrect way to hitch a trailer.

Breakaway switch cable may not be connected.
No pin or lock in coupler latch.
Slack in wire may drag or bind as routed.
Safety chains are not crossed.
Shank may drag, could be flipped.
Tongue jack not cranked up.
  • Looks to me like simply an up close picture to show the various parts of the hitch and how it looks hooked up. They talk about the "spring" bars and show them "sprung', the "rotating latches" for the chains, the "pre -adjusted" hitch head etc.

Nowhere does it say that that picture is a representation of how a hitch should be set up ready for towing.
It is simply an advertising photo in my opinion, and nothing more.

How about a link to this, "ad".

Can't link to a page in a paper magazine.

    They could scan it.
  • Yeah, and who says they were ready to hit the road? Could be they were just setting up the hitch, you know?

Apparently most readers know the difference between an Ad and a how to Article.

    That's for sure!

I never take what I see in ads too serious. Just look at models that appear in ads. Does anybody really think the people in those ads look that way in real everyday life?

  • Did you expect marketing and advertizing to know how to hook up a trailer???

Or think they would ASK engineering to proof the ad??

Actually, the engineering company I worked at before retiring required engineering to sign off on all ad material, catalogs, and other marketing material, along with all marketing training.

We did catch some "obvious to the educated user" errors along the way
