Brake controller

I would assume that the truck has a small plug underneath the dash (in the vicinity of the OBD-II plug and/or above the accelerator pedal area). Almost all vehicles manufactured now that would be capable of towing a trailer that would require electric brakes, do have a quick connect plug for an electric brake controller.

Brand new? Look under back seat, in the glove box(es), in other storage cubby holes for the pigtail. If used, maybe the previous owner moved it or tossed it.

Can't say about Chevy but Ford has a cable with a plug to plug into if no factory controller. Look under the dash. Perhaps a Chevy guy could tell you exactly if & where to look. :)

No reciever. Prolly no tow package either. Check for trams cooler

It has the Transmission cooler. I bought new and can't find a pigtail. But there was a harness going to the rear bumper where I plugged in the 7 pin connecter. I plug my truck camper in and the lights work and charges the house battery

Look at the eTrailer video posted above. It should show you 2 connections an fuses at the fuse box under the hood. And where to find the pig tails under the steering column. At least that was what I did on my 2011 Silverado.

This sounds a bit strange, no receiver hitch, or 7 pin plug. Those components are standard with towing packages. How do you know it also has the trans cooler? Make sure to look at the RPO code list in the glove box so that you know that's all the truck is missing.

GM is kind of funny about brake controller wiring. Some years they have a harness to plug into, some not. If you can't find a harness to plug into under the dash, look for a small bundle of wires that are taped together at the end and looking like they go nowhere. Usually on the left side. Most likely those are your brake controller wires.

i got a quote from the local hitch shop they said $400. i ordered a controller and harness from Etrailer and installed it myself. super easy, took 10 mins and all under $100. just plugged in under the dash in a junction box. "Campfire Time".. my truck was an ordered truck that the purchaser decided they didn't want so the dealer marked it down and i scored..yes i needed to install a receiver, 7 pin receptacle and controller, but all this only cost me under $500. I'm pretty sure all 2500HD come with external tranny coolers and i know mine has one. Kind of odd to order an hd without wanting to tow though?
