Brake Master by Road Master

The class A that we are purchasing is already set up with all of the piping to the Hydraulic Brakes and Air Compressor already installed so I was wondering what you thought of this system?

I am looking into what I need to purchase to set up the DW's 08 CRV and it gets a little confusing. I hope some of you have some experience with this system.

Thanks
  • Thanks for all of the responses. As soon as I get the HM to my house, I will be testing to make sure that the installed system is functioning and working properly.

I'm still not sure whether I will be setting the CRV up for flat towing or just get a tow dolly as the DW is talking about wanting a new car. It's up to her but I hate to see the CRV go as it's an 08 with less that 55,000 mies on it. Plus after all of the new cars and trucks that I have owned, this is the only one that has never been in for warranty service, outside of having the recall for airbags done that is.

Do, either way, I will still check out the system on the MH just in case.

Thanks again for all of your responses.
  • As far as I can tell the 98160 doesn't come with the air cylinder. Best call Roadmaster and ask what you need. They're nice and helpful.

The 9160 is the car-end part of the Brakemaster, which you use since you already have the compressor. If you can, confirm that the compressor and proportioning valve actually do work before buying more.

I think John made a typo when recommending the 9160 braking kit. I believe he's referring to the 98160 "second vehicle kit with breakaway for BrakeMaster systems"

The kit is available from e trailer for $399.00

The 9160 kit is a complete system for motorhomes with air or air over hydraulic braking systems.

The complete system for a gas powered motorhome is the 9060, which includes the compressor, proportioning valve and all the other parts installed in the motorhome which you already have.

We've had the 9060 system in 2 motorhomes and have been completely satisfied with their performance and longevity. The first was in our 2001 Winnebago Adventurer. We installed it with 20,000 miles on the odometer when we changed from pulling a Buick LeSabre on a dolly to pulling a Jeep TJ 4 down.

We had about 112,000 miles on the motorhome when we traded it in for our current 2013 Adventurer. We bought a "Second Motorhome Kit" (98300) for the new motorhome. We're still using the car portion of the original kit since we're still pulling the same Jeep. We have about 32,000 miles on the motorhome portion of the system in our new motorhome, and over 120,000 miles on the equipment in the Jeep.
