DW has had health issues since last winter and we have not been camping this year at all. A group from Church always go camping in the Fall at Petit Jean State Park and it is scheduled for next weekend. I went on the Park website to pick me out a campsite, and up popped a notice that there is a burn ban in effect and only gas or electric cooking units can be used for outdoor cooking and no wood campfires allowed at all. We always had a campfire on Saturday night so all the kids could make S'mores and cook hotdogs. Help us pray for some rain the next few days so they can lift the burn ban......????????

A gas flame will cook just as well as a wood one.

I was thinking of taking the grill and flame diffusers off the small portable gas grill and letting them have at it. ????????

This is similar to what we now carry in our RV to have a fire in the evenings anywhere. Hotdogs and smores can be cooked ovn it, as well as feeling warm and toasty sitting around it. Using something like this for fires really reduces the work with finding/carrying wood for, building, feeding, and putting out, wood fires. Thanks for all the replies, sure am ready to go camping, rain or shine!!! Going and buying a propane firepit is a not in the picture, would probably not use it again. We will use the tabletop gas grill if need be. The forecast for the hurricane has changed some and the area may not get any rain at all, but we always manage to have a great time, no matter what the weather brings........

I have a burn ban approved wood burner. plus a very nice Propane Campfire

Both of these are well designed so that even the grass UNDER them survives.

That said. Burn bans can be lifted at the drop of an inch of rain or more.

We have a propane camp fire now since in California this time of year there are bans in place on any type of fire, wood or charcoal. Ours works great and it is super easy to set up. It really nice in the morning to get working to have a cuppa coffee by!

We even use it if we can have a wood campfire sometimes! :W

I was COLD and rainy here on Labor Day weekend and we had a small wood fire, but friends came up from their campsite and brought their Little Red Campfire and set it up under our EZ UP tent and it was fabulous. We let our wood fire go out and sat around the propane one. We made s'mores and we could sit in a complete circle without having to worry about who was in the smoke and which way the wind would blow.

Just watched the evening news and weatherman said we may be getting some rain Sunday/Monday depending on the path Hurricane Nate takes after it hits land. May have a bonfire after all!!!! ??????
