CB Radio Equipment?

I have a Cobra 29 mounted in my TV, with a magnet mount antenna, and we use it alot while travelling with friends in their RV's just to chat. We pick a little used channel as not to bother the truckers on 19, and to keep the language as PG as possible. (15 seems to be our favorite, and a quick jump to 19) When we travel alone, as a former long haul trucker, I run on channel 19. Its good to be able to hear from the truckers about upcoming traffic backups, accidents, construction, weather,.....and yes, bear reports! lol I wouldn't travel without one, just my preference.

Have had a hand held CB for years.
Can not remember last time I used it.
Not even sure of the name of it.
Picked up at a truck stop out west.

I added a Mirage to my 2 meter Yesau. Makes it work much nicer. .

That looks like a nice little hand held. The chief concern with hand helds is the antenna (usually crap) and I see that one lets you use a good antenna mounted remotely.. The brand has a decent reputation. so go for it.

Now I wonder why the Uniden HR 2510 president is banned? Could it be because of it's easy modification that puts the 10 meter radio into the 27 mhz range? or how it can be modified to allow the RIT to swing the transmit as well? among other things,so I've heard... though I would really like to buy one.....

That's what I have including the Firestick NGP. I have yet to hear anything useful on mine. I'm thinking since I already have that unit installed, I'll buy a handheld for a couple of bucks on eBay, and have a walkie-talkie for my wife and I to use to help backing up and what not.

I figure my 2m Yaesu Ham radio should take care of me ok, but I just wanted a little backup coverage when out of any repeater sites.

Channel 9 and 19 are the emergency channels.

if anyone comes across a Uniden HR 2510 I would interested in purchasing... been a long time since I sold mine and would love to get one back.......

I think this is the Cobra 29 CB radio I have stuck under my truck seat. It sets on CH19 with the squelch knob all the way up. Only there to catch the truckers directly in front of me or behind me... Just a PLAN B thing... It certainly is NOT a family channel thing anymore.

I use to have the CB paired off my AM/FM antenna. I think that is still connected...




I have a similar CB story to tell like JIM SHOE.. Was following a car in Georgia going down the interstate a few years back. We was coming up on a over-pass and there sit a Georgia trooper up there nosed in our direction on the connection road...

SO like a good neighbor I grabbed the CB mike and gave out a big SMOKEY REPORT. .. Immediately before we two vehicles got to the overpass I see the lights come on the trooper car and here he comes up behind us after we went under where he was sitting... So I'm thinking O'boy here we go.... He whips around me and gets right on the tail of the car in front of me. He is the one that had a big ole CB ANTENNA MOUNT on his trunk lid. I just eased over to the passing lane and went on around as they were heading off to the shoulder. My truck had HAM TAGS and and three or four ham radio antennas on it. i had more antennas then the trooper did. Guess the trooper figured the SMOKEY REPORT came from the CB looking car not my truck hehe...

I don't know if the guy had his CB radio ON or not... Made me stop giving SMOKEY REPORTS haha...

With regard to CB channels: Truckers use channel 17 on the west coast and generally speaking from Ariz. east they use channel 19. As far as the emergency channel, I have never heard any emergency communication on any channels but then again I don't try to use the CB for emergencies but rather use the cell phone. It has been reported that channel 13 was the channel for RVers but in 20 years I have never heard a RVer on the channel. I use channel 17 and 19 for road, traffic conditions and location of "Bears" but my Valentine Radar does a great job of helping me drive safely or avoid getting any speeding tickets:):):)
