Coach-net vs. Good Sam roadside

I have used Good Sam 3 times.
1 RV tow
2 toad tow

Just renewed for 3 more years. Sorta seems like I am OK with Good Sam.

I had GS RS, emphasis on "HAD".

Then I got stuck on the side of the interstate in WV in a snowstorm with no heat for 4 hours while they tried to negotiate a 'better deal' with tow operators who already had more calls than they could handle from folks willing to pay full pop for service.

Eventually the tow companies got enough customers dealt with they were willing to tow me for the much reduced rate GS was willing to pay.

I found out later though the exhausted tow truck driver was either too tired, or lazy, to disconnect my driveshaft before he towed my unit, at highway speed, into the nearest town.

So then my failed $250 cooler line (with flush and service) became a $5k transmission rebuild because even though I stopped as soon as the line let go, a long tow at highway speed with a drained tranny and the driveshaft still in place burnt up my transmission.

Oh, and BTW, the 4 hour delay meant I got towed into town after the close of business on Friday of Presidents Day weekend.

Meals, motel, rental car, return trip to pick up the unit a week later when it was finally fixed cost about another $1k.


But the tow was 'free'..................

For 28 yrs I have be signed up for GS Emergency Road Service and GS Travel Assistance policies. Service has been great. Just remember that cumstances surrounding break downs will effect how long it takes to resolve the issue. Calling for Emergency Roadside Assistance is not the same as driving through McDonalds for hamburgers and fries:) I plan to continue using GS EMRS assistance plan. I have had 2 notable experiences where my RV springs broke and GS sent out a 40' flatbed trailer who had to wench up the trailer completely to drive it to a RV shop that could replace the springs. Each tow would have cost me about $1300 if I had to pay without GS EMRS:)

What has been your experience with Coach-net? Have they given you a reason to consider another service?

I can't compare Coach-net and Good Sam because we have only had Coach-net. They have provided us with good, friendly service for 16 years and have been our only road service.

I do have an interesting (to me) observation. For our first two RV's, which we owned for a total of 12 years, we didn't have a road service and we never needed one. In 2001, we purchased a Winnebago Adventurer and a one-year subscription to Coach-net was included. Since then, we have had many reasons to use a road service.

Did you call and file a complaint with Marcus (president of GS)? What was his response in reimbursing for the damages related to the towing screw ups??

Tom, this is know as "KARMA":)

CN has been good for us ,just last week my battery died total time till tow truck was at my sight 20 minutes . and the lady on the phone was great.third time my family has used them no problem.

Too many expect a magic wand or super natural powers will save them from every possibility.

Get caught need a tow in a snowstorm ....you are SOL.
Have a flat with no spare..... you are SOL....
Middle of nowhere in the middle of the night on a holiday weekend you are .....SOL.

Despite what any literature, advertisements or marketing jargon claim.
If you break down under the wrong circumstances in the wrong area you may have to wait awhile.
I have Roadside assistance to cover the bill which could easily be over $1000.00 if I have to have my combo towed.
Waiting and promptness are the luck of the draw. I hope for the best and am prepared for the worse.
If you break down and need a tow you are having a bad day, how bad is not really the Roadside assistance fault. It is simply the gamble you take when you pull out of the driveway.

I have coachnet and have been satisfied. However I believe they use the same tow operators so in the end I'm not sure how much difference it makes
