Cologuard.. yikes.

I don't think this company, Exact Sciences Laboratory, knows what it's doing.

The doctor ordered the kit mid-April, and I heard nothing for 3 weeks. I went back to the Dr's office and they said they'd ordered it. Another week or two goes by, and I get a phone call from them, asking all kinds of questions. Then they went into their spiel about how to use the kit.. as if I was taking notes.

A week or so later I call back asking where this kit was. She said she had a tracking number, but then she went into her 5 minute monologue about how to use the kit. I politely listened, and then asked "ok, what is the tracking number?" I checked Thursday, and the kit is on its way.

Today I get a letter saying they can't send the kit until they get 'additional information.' Yeah right.. the kit has already shipped. I know what this letter is about.. they want to drill me on how to use the kit, again. They act as if there are no directions with the kit, and I'm supposed to memorize all this.

Sheesh. It would be easier just to get the colonoscopy.

Had fanny cam back in 2009.....all clear-no issues.
10 yr program
Doctor had me do a 'kit' late last year.
NEGATIVE so no follow up needed at this time.

Cologuard tests stool for tiny amounts of blood as well as for certain abnormal sections of DNA in cells shed by cancer or polyps that end up in the stool.
Nothing to do with YOUR DNA

Mine wasn't colonguard. I got one through Quest - just picked it up one day.

They always have a reason for going in afterwards. I don't know anyone who took the kit and was told "everything's clear. No need to do the colonoscopy". The doctor always has another reason for going on. I think the kit is one of those non-invasive tests that doesn't do anything but one thing and that is never enough to prevent another test.

Anybody know what Cologuard does with your DNA profile? Do they sell the information to another company or is it kept private? Their website does not provide any information in that regard.

When our doctor wanted my DH to do that test, he provided him with the kit in the office that day. I don't know the brand, but don't think it was Cologuard. He followed the directions on the kit and sent it in. It did require a closer look, so the doctor requested an upper/lower GI. Fortunately that just showed some remnants from his prostate cancer radiation, but no cancer and no treatment. Whoo hoo!

Just wait. Even if the colonguard doesn't show any problem, they'll want to do the colonoscopy anyway...

My wife got a Cologuard kit quite promptly, but she (for various personal reasons) didn't use it for some time. After about 4 weeks the company called to check up. After 6 weeks we got a card in the mail offering a $20 Visa gift card if she'd git-r-done. So she did. First time we ever got paid to sell our sheit.

Hold out for the offer! ๐Ÿ˜‰
