We have been pulling 3 different 5th wheel since 1997, each getting larger and longer. 26' Terry with one slide, 29' Cardinal (31'6") with two slides, and 35' Bighorn with 3 slides(39'4" long) We are now going to leave the Bighorn in our Northwest RV park year round. It has the 6 point level up system. So after many years of not having a bumper pull we purchased a Laredo 225MK (26'11")as a WA/AZ commuter rig and for side trips. I have to say that the 5th wheel was much easier and quicker to hitch up and unhitch, including setup. The Laredo has a power jack, and front and rear power stabilizers, which are all very slow compared to the hydraulic level up.On the road the 2015 RAM 3500 SRW is very smooth, the travel trailer puts a different feeling in to the truck, even though is weighs half as much the 5th wheel. End of Sept we will be off to Arizona and get a real work out for the setup. Couple local shakedowns coming up.Chris

You are using an actual hitch and not a bumper mounted ball hopefully. Also, I'd look into a weight distributing hitch such as a torsion bar setup. The weight is more centered over your axle on the 5th wheel setup. Even though the tongue equipped trailer is less weight, it is also making your truck carry more weight at the bumper. When we had our TT, a 32' Komfort, we towed it with a Hensley Arrow. Super stable, but the feel is different than towing with a fifth wheel and of course, the FW hitch makes a difference too.

Everyone that I've heard from that has experience with both says the 5th wheel is a much easier hook-up and towing. That said we've stayed with a TT as my wife's preference (no additional steps to climb) and having the bed of our truck available for storage.

Having a free bed has it's advantages. We still stow stuff there but have to allow for the hitch clearance during turns.

IMHO there is ONE thing better about a TT over a 5er that would be backing up.

Get a good anti-sway hitch such as a Hensley Arrow or ProPride. Then the TT will pull without any sway.
