If you decide not to go the RV route, I suggest VRBO.com. (Vacation Rental By Owner) Prior to getting our first RV, we travelled to Colorado Springs a couple times a year with 2 Labs. Found a cute little pet friendly house that we rented 1-2 weeks, had fenced yard and never had a problem. We rented from the owner 3 times and after the first time, he never charged us our pet deposit again. We have friends that have used this site with great success. Way better than an hotel, especially since it had a great kitchen and I could cook instead of going out all the time.
