COSTCO no longer wants motorhomes in gas lines?

While fueling my home at Sam's Club yesterday I was told by someone in line with their rig that COSTCO no longer allows RVs to fill?
I guess they can do that if they want but it seems odd. I was told by the guy that told me that a COSTCO employee told him that the RVs cause too much of a traffic jam.

I don't believe that's what the OP said.

Uh-huh.

"I was told by the guy that told me that a COSTCO employee told him that...."
I was told by the guy who owed money to the guy who eats lunch next to the barber shop that the guy who first told the guy about it that he was trying to just have fun with the fourth guy to hear it.
So big a world, so little time to see.

I haven't really followed this thread but my thought is this, since you're paying an annual membership fee you should be eligible for all member benefits. If Costco doesn't have the facilities to fuel your RV they should reimburse you the difference when you fill up somewhere near by. Now if they want to wave the membership fee...

Years ago my buddy and I went on a trip with our daughters and his girl friend. We each had an extended cab pu with a camper and I was towing a 16' boat, so I was blocking a whole island. I filled front and rear tanks on the truck and the 6 gallon tank in the boat. I thought I'd be nice and free up 3 pumps so I pulled my truck away from the island. As I did so, the cashier inside the store started yelling that guy's taking off. My daughter and my buddy's girlfriend both started saying, "no, this is his daughter, he's not leaving"... in a panic, the cashier hit some button that cleared the pumps I'd used. When I went inside to pay she couldn't tell how much I'd pumped. The manager was quite disappointed that I was actually there to pay, apparently it would have been easier for him to call 911 and report it as a gas theft, and it was quite a job for them to recreate how much I owed. Now adays, I don't worry about blocking pumps.

Good points both.

I suspect that the "real estate" people designing the parking lot are NOT the same people who are responsible for the main business plan inside the store.

I've never even seen a Costco with a gas station, so it doesn't bother me. Granted, I've only ever seen 1 Costco.

Oh please. You have NO WAY of knowing that.

I think it's much more likely that they are just short sighted (stupid).

Yep pretty stupid:?
As of 2014, Costco was the third largest retailer in the United States.[5] By 2015 it was the second largest in the world (after Walmart).[6]

I don't believe I would ever use the words Costco and short-sighted in the same sentence.

I think Real Estate is expensive and they don't want to buy more of it then is absolutely required. As someone has already stated, the margin on fuel sales is apparently pretty low so in order to make money, you gotta move a lot of it, especially if you're trying to be about the cheapest place in town. They plan it out with a big area for cars to line up going in a one-way direction towards the pumps and a then a fairly tight turn using a minimum of space for exiting. Seems like this is a pretty efficient layout.

We fill up our toy hauler at Costco all the time. The location near our house isn't that busy most of the time and they have plenty of room. I see people with RVs and boats filling up there all the time as well. It's off of an interstate and is in a less populated area, so that would probably explain why there's plenty of room... there's lots of room in general out here.

I'm not sure I'd take an RV into some other locations in Denver Metro that are in more populated areas, those gas stations have way less room.... but the store in general has way less room to work with when surrounded by a city.

We've studied the nearest Costco for getting in and out for diesel. If it is very early it might be possible.
They have constructed their fueling facilities such, on purpose, to keep RVers out.
Can't even see how we could park there. We had intention of stocking up on food etc since it was right off the Interstate.
They sell propane too and you can see the nozzle for filling vehicles as well as tanks. I have seen on small Class C there quite some time ago.
Caabela's, next door invites RVers to park and has a large area for us.
They know if an RVer takes the time to manuever their rig into their lot, they will buy something and typically a lot more than most in a car. If they would just put in pumps.
WalMart is the same. Some few, you can get your larger RVs in and out but far and few between.
At least we can park on the outskirts, of moat Wall marts to buy supplies.
Bass Pro has/had a large area for out sized vehicles, in Nashville. We parked there more than once on the way north for fishing gear and some clothing. Now it is blocked off with large concrete barriers. Yet inside they want to sell you RV Resort and other time shares.
In shopping areas in South Carolina and most places they are configuring little islands, so that it is near impossible, to get your RV into to shop or take advantage of cheap diesel at various retailers of fuel, in them.
They are cutting their own throats. When we are able to stop for food fuel etc at one time we spend a lot more money.
I imagine the typical RVer spends a grand or more, when fueling and buying provisions, and maybe eating at a restaurant, where it is possible.

I just use gasbuddy.

Costco will be cheapest a lot of the time. Murphy (Walmart) will be cheapest a lot of the time. Those are the two who are consistently the cheapest IMHO.

On edit - I should also probably add Sam's to my short list. I don't pay so much attention to them because I no longer have a Sam's card.
