Old post update.
Forgot about this thread until I was searching for something else.
We made it through the summer at Crazy Horse just fine. Made some new friends, and had some great memories.
As far as the job goes, it was work, but that's why they pay for our vacations I guess?!?!?!? haha As with any job, there are always a few grouches, but for the most part it was a good group of folks. And it wasn't anyone who is with Crazy Horse, just a couple workkampers that think they run the joint. We have encountered that just about everywhere we have worked. We usually end up making them friends whether they like it or not!! haha
The only real drawback is the campground, and not that big of a deal either. It is bare bones, some of the sites could be more level, but not a deal breaker. We really did not get much for cell service most of the time, but that is supposed to change in the next year or so with a new tower going up, but we have all heard that before.
I would say that for the most part it was fun, we only wanted to work 3 days a week, they wanted 5, so we compromised on 4 days a week. It is about a mile or so to the monument, although from the campground you see it very well.
I would recommend it to a friend, actually already have a couple folks we know going up there next year.
We have not made any plans yet for next summer, taking long looks at maybe just tooling around instead. But Crazy Horse is in the back of our minds, maybe not this year, but I think we may end up going back for a summer somewhere in the future, guess that sort of sums it up.
Funny side note, the only week I did not enjoy was bike week, I realized that for the most part the crowd is just too much. Riding up there outside bikeweek is absolutely wonderful, then the crowd hits and everything is such a hassle. I would recommend going outside that week, as that is what I will do from now on for sure.
Also, we had 3 or 4 major hail storms while there. Several thousands of dollars in damage. Insurance covered it all, was a hassle for sure, but all new stuff on the rv roof, and new fenders for the bike, new hood and fenders for the jeep, so with the new stuff everything looks brand new. But be prepared and have insurance up to date if you spend a summer up there.
