Dealer issue?

So went to pick up our brand new camper which we bought in November but left stored at the dealer for winter storage. Part of the deal was the dealer was going to remove all the stickers in the front of the camper including the factory ones and theres which had a sold sign our name on it etc. When I walked in I was expecting to see a shiny new camper again this was a brand new unit. What I saw as a camper that had stickers removed but all the sticky stuff and stains remained, when they washed the unit they left black streaks on it. I was so disappointed I was expecting the same treatment as when you buy a new car all polished and shiny. When I said something to the service manager he was indignant and said "well you know you got a great price its our internet special and we don't do much to them" He said he could see what they could do but it wouldn't be then but later in the day. Am I wrong on my expectations? By the way when we paid for it we told them that we would with hold $250.00 until we picked the unit up just to make sure we wouldn't have such a problem also we have it registered and have the plates can/should we hold that $$ until we pick it up as it was not done Friday afternoon and we have to go back. Am I unrealistic in expecting them to wash and make the camper look like we feel it should?
Your input would be appreciated.

My feeling is that no matter the price, if you, as a dealer offered that price then you should complete the service. You made a decision to sell low not the buyer. Your price should reflect the camper AND the normally offered service. Did the Internet price suggest that the buyer would not get normal service included? Think not. What is the cut off for service when bought on the lot? $1000 off sticker price, $5000 off sticker price? At what point does that buyer stop expecting all the service. The unit should never have been advertised on line at that price without a disclaimer "we don't do s@$& to this unit when you pick it up!"

Oh sure, because we all know how honest dealers are.

You absolutely SHOULD post the dealer's name. Help out your fellow forum members I would say. This is one dealer I would want to avoid.

I guess that depends on what 'great price' you got. Dealers need to feed their families too, and you can't expect superior service with a rock-bottom price.

Say what? Well, if the dealer was not going to provide superior service because of a low price, then the buyer should have been made aware of this fact before accepting the deal. Since when does price dictate the level of service provided. If I pay $500 less for my car than you paid for your car, does that mean you get $500 worth of better service? I have never heard of that argument before.

The service manager should have been aware of the terms agreed on because he is, wait for it...the service manager. They paid the lot boy the same amount to do a bad job as a good one, so that is a dealer problem. At this point, I would inform them I will take the camper as is, and complete the work myself. The $250 will go towards cleaning material and a nice dinner out.

If it were me as soon as the service manager spewed that******it would have been off to the person that sold it to me and the two of us would have been in the owners office.to get it right. I am assuming you paid for it last fall and he agreed to store it till spring. That is very common. It should have had the stickers removed...been prepped and detailed for the day you picked it up. The Dealer needs to know what his service managers attitude is like...be it his son or not....because in the long run their overall service to their customers will make or break the business. As for keeping the 250....not going to happen as he will not let it go without full payment as he is entitled to. If you still get poor treatment go to the dealership principal.

One question...How much was your storage fee?

The cost of buying the camper so if you buy something new do you want to have to detail it at home?

Look at these people defending this dealer. When you buy something new, even if it is just a pack of gum, it is supposed to be clean and shiny.
The dealer made the deal, sending the lot boy out to clean in costs him what $30.00 dollars,it is automatically part of he deal.
Now ask me again why the RV business is such a shoddy business.
Because YOU let them get away with it.

Stay off of Dealer lots!! Period. I don't think 1 in 10 RV buyers ever really have the great experience that they should have when spending their hard earned cash. Keep your $250.00 and move on. Service Managers in most of those places are of similar disposition as the guy you ran into. Overworked, underpaid, not all that knowledgeable and further more can't even remember you or the unit you bought. Plus the sales guy you dealt with doesn't know you anymore. He has moved on to the next unit and buyer and you will have to as well.
Rv dealers and builders for the most part have no idea of how to give good service. There are exceptions but few and far between.

It wasn't washed or cleaned when we bought it on November 18th of 2014 they were to dealer prep it and remove decals when we were to bring it home. Frankly they are being very short sighted this is our first camper and we are all ready thinking we need to go bigger, had the same problem when we first started buying boats suffered from 2ft ITIS every few yrs we bought a bigger boat, and frankly all 4 boats were purchased from the same dealer he knew what to expect treated us right before during and after the sale all told we bought 4 Searays the last being a 32 footer from him gave us a good price gave us a good trade in etc...

I think that you are not communicating with the right people. I have to wonder how the service manager knows what you agreed to with the sales department. You should talk with the general manager and produce whatever documents you have supporting your claims about when a wash and clean up was to occur.

Service manager is the owners son.

All depends?? If you bought it from CW no you have no chance what so ever. If you bought it some place else yes you have a chance. Good luck and let us know how it turned out.

Why on earth are you blaming Camping World? They were never mentioned, and are no worse or better than thousands of other dealers across the country. Blaming your mother-in-law makes just as much sense as your post!

Its not Camping World. Until the issue is rsolved I would not mention who the dealer is only to be fair.

The trailer we bought is fairly small and pretty much an entry level trailer. Don't get me wrong, it's what we were looking for and love it. The dealer we bought it from treated us like gold and made us feel like we were buying a class a motor home. Our plans are to keep this one until retirement then buy a much nicer and more expensive trailer. The place we bought this one from will definitely be a top contender for the purchase. As mentioned, treating the customer right ensures repeat business.

"If it were me" I'd expect it cleaned up and everything done before the deal got signed. The $250 wouldn't be an issue then. But if you own it keep your money and do it yourself.
