This was suggested in another thread, and I didn't want to hijack, so here is a thought. Has anyone ever noticed on most cars and trucks there is a little indicator next to the gas gauge that shows which side the filler is on?? If you haven't, look at yours the next time you get in it. In the MH, filler is on the back, so its anyones guess.

As others have said it's a useless feature for your own vehicles, but I use it on my way back to the airport for the final fill-up on rental cars all the time. Very handy.

On a slightly related point. I just purchased a 2011 F-150. It has a icon to show you which side the door is on. But, the ; new to me thing ; is that there is no gas cap under the gas door. You just put the gas nozzle in there are start filling.

I pulled into the fueling station the other day, and overheard the attendant ask the driver of the car on the other side of the island to unlock his doors. That particular car has a push-push style gas door, but in order to open it, the car's doors must be unlocked. New one on me.

Our vehicles for the last 15 years have had the indicator, and it points to the correct side. However, my daily driver, a 2004 Malibu Maxx (new model) had the filler on the passenger side. Now that I've traded it for a '16 VW Golf, I find I don't need to break that habit... Both the '12 Canyon and the Sunseeker are on the Driver's side.

I appreciate having the indicator. Like so many others in this thread, I rent vehicles from time to time and it's always good to have some idea of which side to pull into. Now getting the dang door open sometimes is another story.

My MIL's Caddy has the door on the passenger's side with a push-and-release latch. The gauge points you in the right direction, but nothing says "just tap the door and it will open".

I love it. It only costs them about 3 cents to put that symbol on the gauge so I think any carmaker that doesn't do it is incompetent. I guess since I don't pay attention to which side of the car has my gas cap I'm stupid according to some people. That's OK with me. They pay me a lot of money for being so stupid and that's all that matters to me.

Wasn't that long ago. 😞 I still have one of those cars. I don't drive it much anymore though.

I used to have a Ford Maverick. To put in gas you unscrewed the Maverick emblem from the back of the car.

Me too.

And, I drive lots of different vehicles at work. They are not all the same.

I've found that the newer Fords are better at indicating to you which side the filler neck is on. My last Chevy did not.

As often as I have to visit it, I never have any trouble remembering where the fuel filler is on my tow rig.

We have an F53 and there is no indicator of any kind on our dash. Fill is in the drivers side though.
