diesel fuel storage

The algae/fungus has to have water to grow. It does not occur in 100 percent diesel. It grows right at the diesel/water interface.

I agree with the posters that said to use a Boicide. It can begin to grow a fungus after awhile and the Biocide will stop the grown of that.

Diesel doesn't deteriorate like gasoline, I have used it after several years.

I keep it in my p'up Aux. tank for a year or two if necessary. Just have a GOOD filter in case of water in fuel.

I have used diesel that was five+ years old. If you keep the tank full I would not add anything to it if going to use in next year or two.

I'm a ranch owner so I have tanks for my diesel for off-road for my tractor and on road for my trucks.

I have stored diesel for years with no problems.

One thing you have to watch out for is sweating. If you get any water vapor in a non sealed tank (and you will from the air) then that can grow bad things. Kind of weird to me that things can live in a very small amount of water in a pool of diesel.

It's a good idea to put some Biocide in the tank if you are going to store diesel for a very long time (6 months or longer).

Also make sure your filters are up to snuff and you will be good to go. I filter twice. One on my feed tank and one on my truck. I know you can't do this for your truck but I have never had any problems.

My neighbor bought a 10,000 gallon load real cheap years ago. He told me he sucked on that tank for over 10 years!

We have kept fuel for 2 years with no problem. remember full = less air = less condensation.

I am a new diesel owner, driven lots, but never have owned.

My new truck has a 50 gallon auxiliary as well and with prices low around me I did the same but we don't drive the truck unless camper is coming out.

I've used diesel that I had sitting in 5 gallon plastic containers after 6 years with no issues. I do use a filter/water separator on my auxiliary tank, and it got mixed in with newer fuel.

With a biocide and an antioxidant added into the tank, your fuel should be good until next year, when it's used. It would be good to have a filter on the tank so that any condensate can be drawn off at that point.
