Direct TV and a MotoSat satellite dish

HI,
Here's a tough one. . .We have an older round MotoSat dish on our roof and it used an RCA Direct TV receiver to raise the dish. As many of you know, MotoSat is out of business and Direct TV phased out the old RCA receivers, but I got some helpful advice from this forum on how to still get the system to work. Some said to use the old RCA box to raise the satellite dish and lock it in on the Direct TV satellite. This seems to work well. then they said get an A/B switch and use the new Direct TV box to watch the tv. All this makes sense, except, I can't find an A/B switch anywhere with ONE input (for the satellite in) and two outputs (for the new and old Direct TV boxes) Every A/B switch I see has TWO inputs and ONE output (to the TV) I'm told you can't flip the A/B switches and work them backwards.
One other problem. I tried switching the cables manually. ie: raise the dish with the RCA receiver, then I unscrewed the "satellite in" coax to put it on the new box. Everytime I did that, the dish would drop and lower to the roof. MotoSat had a fail safe mode so if the RV ingition key were turned on, it lowered the dish automatically so you wouldn't rip it off while driving. I'm thinking that the interruption from the "satellite in" coaxial cable when I switch boxes is telling it to go down. AND, the final question, would an A/B switch change over the signal simultaneously so the dish would stay up?
I realize I'm going to have to upgrade to a new system soon, but just trying to make ends meet this summer.
Thanks
  • All a A/B switch does is mechanically switch the outputs so it can be used in either direction. To verify take it apart.

You would have to try the switch and see if the switching was fast enough that the dish stays up.

Otherwise add a switch to the dish motors so that they cannot drop the dish. I'm assuming that this DC connection has nothing to do with the signal.

Or ask RF Mogul for advice as they now repair MotoSat.
