Dometic refer question

I just went to set my refer to cool it down to load it up for a trip. when I turned the thermostat switch to set the temp it clicked and now turns freely with no friction any ideas? There was always some tension on the knob, now none. I see 2 screws on the control panel, will that remove the cover so I can look in there. Feels like the rod that goes to the thermostat snapped. I hope I explained that good enough to understand my problem. It's a RM2410

I believe you have to remove the panel, it's been a while.
    thank you

I would bet on the knob. The rod is aluminum.
you would think, but it doesn't want to come off so it might not be. I've broke many things like that in my 72 years and it creates another problem. I gave it a good try to pull it off, no luck.

Pull the knob off and look. Plastic knobs tend to break after a while.
Knobs do not pull off, tried with needle nose pliers, do not want to force it but gave good pull and wiggle. Have set so just waiting to see how it cools. that takes awhile as there so slow to cool.

I undid the screws but the panel doesn't come right off. It appears like the door has to be removed as the pins go into that panel. The knob turns 360 where it use to stop when you got to Max.on the temp.
