dumb newby dumb question

am new to this forum. we are considering a type a vegas mh.
have a ford edge. would anyone recommend towing this vehicle behind the vegas on a dolly?

"valid" for what? There are many of us successfully 4-down towing vehicles that the manufacturer says can't be, without "invalidating" anything.

valid for keeping your manufacturer's warranty if you happen to have transmission trouble. if one already has the vehicle and it is past warranty, go ahead and gamble. if you are buying a new vehicle to tow, you are silly/rash/foolhardy to buy something that the mfr. wasn't warrant it as towable.
if you have trouble and have only relied on some third party as a source of "its towable", good luck suing them when things go South.

I owned a 2010 Edge AWD, it was not towable 4 down. I read somewhere that in like 2011 or after there was some change made that made it possible though.

What does the Edge owner's manual say about dolly towing. Most AWD cars cannot be dolly towed, but some can be towed four wheels down.

Thor's Vegas is built on Ford's E-450 bare chassis with the 6.8L V-10. This is usually rated 22,000 pounds GCWR, the motorhome is not likely over 15,000 pounds loaded, leaving about 7,000 pounds of chassis capacity for towing, enough for an Edge.

But what the Vegas motorhome can tow depends on what Thor has done with respect to modifying the frame and attaching a hitch receiver. Thor will have their own tow rating. 3500 and 5000 pounds are common. 3500 is not enough for a SUV as heavy as the Edge, 5000 could be marginal if the car is loaded with cargo. Hitch receivers with higher ratings are available for the E-450 chassis.

First you would want to check you manual for the Edge as to whether it can be towed on a dolly. Or you can ask Ford. Then if it can be towed you would need to know the weight of the Edge. And then you would need to base the RV you buy on its ability to tow that weight.

Research ahead of time will save you headaches in the long run. And while there is much help to be had here your Edge may not be equipped the same as someone else's Edge. Sometimes you just have to do your own leg work to be sure you get the correct answers.

What is the weight of the Edge? What is the towing capacity of your MH?

Do not ever plan to tow any vehicle until and unless you read in the manual that came with that vehicle that it can be towed 4 wheels down. It usually is listed under recreational towing and not emergency towing.

If the Edge is front wheel drive, then, yes, I would recommend towing it on a dolly. (I know nothing about the Ford Edge vehicle)
If it is rear wheel or all wheel drive, then no, it probably should not be dolly towed.
Another consideration is the weight of the Edge/dolly combination. What is the towing capacity of the hitch on the Vegas motorhome. It is quite likely either 3500 or 5000 lbs.
Tongue weight is not an issue for dolly towing, the tongue of the dolly puts very little weight on the hitch.

what does your owner's manual say about towing behind a motorhome or recreational towing. that is the only "valid" source of information.
