Dump Rage

Do You have dump rage?

You know the scenario weekend warrior gotta dump at the end of the weekend and the line is long.

I'm finding myself more and more irritated at the free dump stations. I only boondock and these stations are in bigger towns that are on my way home so I have no other choice. Closest dump station to me is an hour from my house.

I've been picking up a few handy tips as well to make it as fast as possible. However there is always these things that blow my mind when I pull up.

Usually I don't get too wound up but this one really got me, but after I really thought about it, it might actually make the process even faster.

So I come to the dump guy is unloading in front of me. I get my door up and my hose out and actually walk up and lay my hose down before my turn.

Guys are nice and then I see him and his friend pulling in a water hose i think it was a drinking hose no less attached to the nasty dump hose spigot hose. He proceeds to run it through the window and another 10 minutes goes by. I was next inline so I was patient as you have to be watching him unhook the water line with it turned on etc. Always good for a laugh.

Now there is a great line behind me at least 5 campers deep. This guy rolls up in a class A on the opposite side of the dump. I can see him putting on gloves and getting out when the first guy finishes his weird flushing procedure. The first guy in front of me was kind enough to actually move forward to put his gear away.(nice!)

So watching this other guy I KNEW what he was up too and I raced to get in position and get dumping. He's opened his bay door and pulls out his hose, I'm already hooked up an dumping at this point.

He says the worst part about camping is? I cut him off and said you know the line is way back there right. He says yeah but it'll just take a second. He knew I wasn't happy about what he was doing and I finished quickly and got outta there.

I know if i was next in line with this cutter I would have probably lost it on him.

I was trying to let him know its not right what you're doing with the long line of people behind me.

After I reflected awhile I kinda thought about something. It would only work in this type of dump. An island with enough room on both sides for the one dump. If you have 2 campers trying to dump. there is always the guy taking his time hooking up flushers putting gloves on and the other guy can be dumping so on an so forth. basically cutting the time down to only dumping and moving through the lineup faster. Of course it would only work if one is dumping an the other is setting up or tearing down.

But i see some of the most ridiculous things at these places I get anxiety dumping on a Sunday. Maybe the answer is time of day and time of week to avoid the dreaded dump station.

I've tried to develop a system for these types of places. They can really add a significant amount of time waiting on these clowns that take their time 3 deep can be an hour if everyone is flushing and doing god knows what else.

Be ready. Doors up hoses placed near ahead of time. dump. add some water down the sewer, pull away then collect your things so the next guy can move in. I try to be like pit crew at a indy 500 race. My record is 4 minutes from move in to move away.

Sorry for the rant but do you get DUMP RAGE?

We volunteered at Rocky Mtn. Nat'l Park and the campground had a dishwashing station on the back side of the restroom. A camper emptied his toilet Porta Potty in it! Another time a guy in his birthday suit got into the sink to take his nightly bath!! Both were fined and banned from the park. Guess who had to clean and disinfect the sink? Yep. Us. Be careful out there at those sinks. Also, the roadside water spigots is no place to wash dishes, brush your teeth or wash your hair. At another park we had to dig down two feet at each spigot and replace the gravel because the upper layer was so filthy with toothpaste, hair and garbage that water couldn't drain and there was an awful mess. Some campers are absolutely disgusting. You wonder what their homes look like.

Thank you for the clarification, Westernrvparkowner. As I said, it's been a long time since I've done that work.

A few years ago I was getting my septic pumped and noticed the riser top the guy took off was fiberglass. I looked at the guy and said "This is fiberglass." He looked at me and said "Yay?" I told him I could drill a hole and put a clean out in it. He said "Yay?"
I bought a hundred feet of sewer hose and voila.
Now mind you, it is a pretty steep downhill from the RV to the clean out so there's no chance of stragglers.

Maybe...when running sewer pipe, there is a maximum slope allowed to keep the liquid from running off too quickly and leaving the solids behind. It's been many years since I've run pipe, but it sticks in my mind that it's around 1" slope in 10' run.
Code actually allows anything between 1/4 inch per foot to 3 inches per foot. I have put in a lot of sewer lines, had them inspected, and never has the inspector put a level on the lines. Unless you live in Kansas, it is often impossible to occasionally not have greater slopes due to the contour of the land. Also, dumping an RV tank is much different than normal septic flow. Even if you poop like an elephant, you won't be putting 50 gallons of sewage into the system at a single flush. And even if your walk in shower sprays like firehose, you won't be able to follow that up with 50 gallons of gray water to flush the lines.
BTW, I doubt anyone ever checks the slope on their sewer hose when they dump at the dump station. All anyone cares about, or needs to care about, is if it flows downhill.

I can see where I could get Dump Rage because I am that sort of guy. But, I've never had to deal with it.

I am a weekend camper that stays close to home. I know what times of the day most people leave and I just wait to dump then the line is gone.

If I can't do that there is 2 places close to home that I can use as I go home. They charge you 10 bucks but, it can be worth the price to get in and out quick and easy.

Believe it or not there are dump stations made to used exactly that way. At Shawnee State Park in PA they have a concrete pad sloped to the drain hole about 6' square. It has a curb about 2" high cast into the entire perimeter and is offset about halfway into the driving lane. The driving lane is also curbed so when you pull up your tires go over that curb and it positions your outlet almost dead center over the honey hole. I gave it a try last Novemeber, it works great, no slinky needed and no spillage beyond the 2" curb. Both stations had a convenient large rock for holding thevlid open so you did not have to stand on it when you pulled the handle.

I wonder if it is like that to contain any spills that may happen? We had the joy of watching a couple in front of us dump like that, just what I want to see is other peoples waste flowing freely, just gross! They did at least rinse the area when they were finished but still...

Here in KS our rest areas have dump stations so if the line is long at camp we just go on and hit one of those on the way home.

We stay at a campground on the lake in PA and it doesn't have sewer connections. For $10 you can have the honey pot come clean your tanks. This past weekend we left Saturday evening (rainy forecast, just ready to go home). As I pulled into the dump station I saw the honey pot dumping... no sewer hose, just pulled the dump drain and dropped it straight into the sunken pit where you can attach your hose.

Whats the difference between the honey pot doing that and Cousin Eddie doing that?

Post the video - or it didn't happen! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well I did not think making a Youtube Video at the time was all that important.......will this do? Google Earth gets better all the time.

Too many geezers, self appointed moderators, experts, and disappearing posts for me. Enjoy. How many times can the same thing be rehashed over and over?
