Dump station fools

Seems like there was a thread about the same general thing recently, but I can't find it so I'll start over.

Today at the dump station, a couple are on the other side of us, dumping their small TT. There is no potable water there. There is a hose on a vertical arm with a reel of hose at the top, so you can pull it out and into your RV if you want. And there is a regular hose spigot facing each lane. With a big sign saying DO NOT DRINK THIS WATER.

So anyway, he finishes dumping. After a minute, I notice he has a nice new looking white drinking water hose out. He proceeds to attach it to the spigot and the wife takes it into the TT to put it in the toilet (I am assuming). I was so stunned that I didn't keep enough wits about me to consider telling them what they were doing wrong. I normally would try to keep my advice to myself, but really, they needed someone to speak up.

I had stuff to do, and people were waiting. When I finished, she came out with the hose and said, "all the lights are still on", which I took to mean they were worrying about the tank level indicators. At that point, we left. I wish I would have said something. I might have gotten chewed out for it, but it would have rolled off my back pretty soon.

My DW says maybe they had a separate hose just for that. Um, I am betting not. Oh well.
Currently RV-less but not done yet.

If someone wants to watch me get rid of my memories (POO), than more power too them, but you better be quick to look. I am in and out of there in less than 8 minutes and as little as 4 to get the job done. No gloves and no flushing out the tanks. I even pull both valves open at the same time. It takes the gray tank longer to drain anyway. I do respect to get done asap for the next guy. BTW, I do use Clorox wipes ๐Ÿ™‚
Full timing it since July 2012

My white hose split this year and it will be the last one I buy. I'm going with a nice 50' red heavy duty no kink farm hose next year. I'll be waiting for the friendly well intentioned knocks on my camper door.

We just mind our own business. One time, hubby and I watched a guy dumping his black tank, no gloves, while eating a granola bar. Almost made me gag, but now we laugh about it. Whatevah!

Yeah, the guy should have been wearing gloves and eating his Granola bar. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

OK, Ask The Audience overwhelmingly says MYOB and leave them alone, they probably knew what they were doing.
So I was right to keep quiet, but wrong to assume they were ignorant/foolish.
Mea Culpa!

I use disposable gloves and know how to take them off correctly. Only one time in particular were they needed... a campground with a really bad dump station, where the pipe was 6 inches above ground and surrounded by gravel, not concrete. There was brown "mud" all over the place. I managed to get the outside of my stinky slinky rinsed off, but I did have brown "mud" on my gloves by the time I was finished. I was not happy with that dump station!

Yes, I routinely dump without a speck of dirt getting on my gloves (or even water sometimes), but I wear the gloves just in case. I don't worry too much about my boots... I step carefully, and usually don't eat any food that falls on the floor of my truck under the driver's seat.

At our local state park you see a large variety of dumping "styles". The dump stations there are large and well designed. The pipes are flush with concrete, and the concrete pad is large and sloped to the pipe. One time a gentleman showed up to dump and I think he had not done it before, or at least not at that type of station. He pulled up and lined up the tank drain with the sloped pad, opened up the tank drain without a stinky slinky, and let it drain out and flow down to the pipe. Afterwards he rinsed off the area thoroughly with the stations hose... by that time a Park Ranger showed up and told him to please use a stinky slinky in the future.

Another time an "experienced" camper dumped there using a hose correctly... but then removed the hose, and stuck the stations rinse hose up the campers drain pipe (from the outside) and rinsed it out with full pressure... water spraying all over the place, and he didn't wear gloves. I gently mentioned that maybe he should keep the slinky attached and use gloves... he said no problem, he is just rinsing after all the "stuff" has gone through, and he just washes his hands when he is done. To each their own!

As others have stated, maybe the guy actually knew what he was doing and had a seperate hose. As you state, you are just making assumptions - and everyone knows what an assumption can make out of you. Listen to your wife, she's smarter than you.

To many people make a ritual out of dumping.

Boy isnt that the truth. I watch some folks gearing up as if they are going into battle. Hip waders..check, eye protection..check, rubber gloves up to the elbow..check, all kinds of hoses and gadgets spread out...check

The previous owner of our rig had two white hoses. One for potable water, the other for use while dumping. He had a strip of black electrical tape near the nozzle of the latter, I guess to differentiate. Too easy to make a mistake in my mind.

I use an old white hose for my black tank flush. Had it all coiled up and then took black spray paint and painted lines about every 6-8 inches while coiled up. Real easy to see the difference in hose and also it is in a seperate bin.

I spent an entire career catching people doing the wrong thing. When I retired I swore I'd mind my own business from then on and just run my own life and try to create some happy memories for the family. I let the other guy worry about himself. We're all adults and it's true we can all still learn even though some lessons may come hard.

Potable water hose WHITE, dump hose cleaning and flushing black tank GREY, general RV clening or washing space BLUE, no confusion no problem, all stored in different compartments.

I only open my mouth if it is my car or RV that is in the line of damage or a small child or animal, and only if a person asks for advise, to many rude newbies to count.
