Some states are checking speeds in toll plazas:

USA Today

I recall hearing stories about the NJ Turnpike checking how fast you went from point A to point B based on your toll ticket. And then mailing tickets to speeders. It may be apocryphal tho. The same could be done using any of these electronic payment systems, it would be trivial to calculate speed between toll plazas.

In 95 we went to Az for Niece's graduation. On the way back we came through Kansas. The toll ticket said something in regards to being timed, on a section of the Interstate that Kansas had a toll on.
Posted this a while ago and it was gone just now. It is not legal. The toll road authority is not a police department but neither is the speed and traffic cmeras that send tickets.

Too bad more states don't do like Illinois and have high speed tolling for those with electronic tolling devices. Traffic on the main line highway wouldn't have to slow down at all to pay tolls. One or two toll booths would still be maintained off to the side for cash payments.

Or, just have no tolling at all like most of the west.

Yes, they could, in theory, use our transponders to calculate our average speeds and send us a ticket, but that might end up causing other problems for the state.

I think no state wants to be the first to do it.

So l my assumption is you don't know what VASCAR is

What vascar is it takes a known distance say eighths of a mile or quarter mile or whatever .......they hit a button when you cross one reference points they hit another button when you come across the other reference

. It does your ETA elapsed time and that turns into miles per hour its older than the Hills.....but undetectable....unless you see Police car, plane, officer standing there,

Yes, VASCAR is older than the hills, if I remember correctly it can be used from a moving cop car going the same direction or on an on comin car, was really stealth stuff in its day,

Actually once I started pulling an RV I put my radar detector away since I just don't have to worry about speeding anymore.

I don't get it. First I don't understand what you are gaining by stopping for 15 minutes so you have the legal average speed --- why not just drive the legal speed??? Annnnnd . . . the subject of this thread seems to be all about how to drive faster than the posted speeds. As RV owners, maybe our focus should be on driving in the safest manner.

I know my uncle warned my dad not to go to fast on the Turnpike back in 1975 when we where in Pennsylvania. Instead, we stopped at a rest area, and bought gas, got a drink, and back on the road in about 15 minutes. Told the toll taker at the other end that we drove straight through, at 55 mph, just like the sign says!

My buddy who drives big rigs would get on the turnpike in OK City and pay a 'fine' for not keeping the ticket when you get on, and paid the full rate for lost ticket, about $15. The cost to drive from OK City to the end of the line was also $15.

Just if you kept the Turnpike ticket, and make it in say 4 hours some 300 miles, they know they can fine you a certain amount for averaging 75 MPH.

Yet this article is about driving through the toll plaza at a unsafe speed. The toll takers are in the boxes on the center of the freeway, and have to get out and take restroom breaks from time to time. So people are crossing the traffic lanes all the time - day and night. You really should be slowing down for the 1/2 mile approach to the plaza and the area around it.

Have fun camping!

I don't see anything wrong with either.
May help cut down on speeders and reduce accidents.
