This was terrible and I feel for the Cessna family members. There is a lot more to this story that I bet will come out later. How does one of the most sophisticated combat planes in the world get taken out by a Cessna 150? I have heard and saw a video that is suppose to be the same plane right before it hit the Cessna hot dogging doing low altitude high speed passes over some buddies on the ground. Hope this is all untrue but if it is that pilot should have the book thrown at them. Time will tell.
Why not save your speculation and wait for the facts? That guy was training to save your butt.

Doesn't take much to bring down *ANY* aircraft.
"Combat" capabilities have nothing to do with it..:S
Bird strikes put an Airbus A320 (safely) down into the Hudson River.
Unfortunately, small aircraft have "taken out" large sophisticated commercial aircraft with much more disastrous results.
Collisions:
PSA Boeing 727 and a Cessna 172 over a San Diego neighborhood - 1978.
137 killed in the aircraft & 7 on the ground.
PSA on approach to Lindberg Field.
Many PSA employees on board "deadheading" to SD.
Aeromexico DC-9 and a Piper Archer over a Cerritos neighborhood - 1986.
67 killed in the aircraft & 15 on the ground.
Aeromexico on approach to LAX.
When it's your time........a passenger booked on the PSA flight had survived the Tenerife 747s disaster the year before.
Changed his plans before the PSA flight.

On edit: Charleston - according to "Air Force Times", the USAF aircraft was an F-16C. The pilot survived in good condition.

If this is the midair near Charleston the F15 hit the Cessna from the rear,2 fatalities.they would have never had a chance to "see & avoid". Fighter was doing "practice instrument approaches" so don't know why air traffic control didnt call out to the fighter that there was traffic.sometimes its just your time. - ArcamperExplorerThis was terrible and I feel for the Cessna family members. - colliehaulerExplorer IIICondolences to the family members of the Cessna.
- Homer1ExplorerLittle do we realize in this modern world that every waking and sleeping minute death is just over head. Any of those flying objects can and eventually will either collide or just fall out of the air. The folks in that TT were really fortunate. I think maybe I would rethink my plans for tomorrow.
The people in the Cessna, well we never know when we get up in the morning. Some one was terribly wrong in this. Will we ever know?? - tatestExplorer IIThat's just the nozzle behind the afterburner. The F100 engine used by F-15 and F-16 is 15 feet long and weighs at least 3000 pounds. There would be no trailer.
