Flat Towing 2011-13 Honda Pilot

Is anybody flat towing a 2011-13 Honda Pilot? If so, please let me know your experiences and specifically whether it is 2WD or AWD.
  • OP here. Anybody out there towing the Honda Pilot? Experiences?

    Thanks,

    Myron

they are the last word if you want some redress from the mfr. if you tow one and things go South. an example is a buy back or some such thing for one vehicle a few years back where the manual said it was towable, it wasn't and the buyers were compensated for their loss.
now you can ask remco for a cash settlement and get laughed at. and just because one tows for x miles and it doesn't blow up, it is possible that internal damage can/has occurred and it may fail at xxx miles instead of what is normal, never.

OP is asking about a car 4-6 years old; he aint getting any redress from Honda anyway.

He never asked if it would be covered under warranty. He just wants to know if it will blow up.

It seems to me that he does not own this unit yet and is considering buying one for use as a toad. Since there are units out there that are towable 4 down I think one is very foolish to not buy one but that of course is his choice. and a choice made on internet heresay is an iffy choice IMHO. and the owner's manual IS the best source of this information.

  • OP here.

I know what the manual says, and that is not the question. I don't expect redress from the Honda if things go south.

I know one person who has successfully towed a 2013 2WD drive Pilot since it was new. Others have told know me they know folks towing their Pilots up to model year 2013.

I really don't want a debate, just real-life first hand experiences. I am particularly interested in experience with the AWD. I will also talk to Remco and get their take.

    Thanks!

  • Owners manuals arent the last word IMHO. Honda says the Element cant be towed but its the same drive train as the CRV that can be towed and many mice elf included have towed two Elements tens of thousands of miles.

Lawyers and accountants often over-ride engineers and sales people. Many stick shift owners manuals say no towing but are fine to tow.

I say to call Remco as it is their goal to enable you to tow almost any vehicle and have studied most cars to figure it out AND they give free advice.

I was slightly interested in towing a stick shift F150 2WD and they told me 5 speed towable, 6 speed not unless you put a drive shaft disconnect in.
  • Call Remco but Im pretty sure 05 was the last year you could flat tow without a pump or modification.
