Flying Colors

Just got back from a weeks worth of camping at three different campgrounds. One of the things I do during set up is to raise my flag on the rear ladder of my fifth wheel. Been doing that since I bought the camper. What I have come to notice is, I was the only person who did this. I'm hoping the patriotic spirit has nor completely disappeared in our great American past time!

I attach a small flag to my antenna. Most of the time I am the only one at the campground flying the flag. I do for my family members who are veterans.

I fly mine in front every stop.

I vote, pay taxes, served in the military, served jury duty and fly a windsock. Probably a lot more patriotic than most Americans.

EDIT. I also play John Wayne's America, Why I Love Her, every 4th of July.

I do not fly every day but do on occasion. The reason is I use the flag pole for other things. One of these days I'll rig the pole so I can both fly the flag and my antennas on the same pole.

Most people I observe in campgrounds flying the flag disregard lowering it at sunset or lighting it. And of course your not going to light it at night at a camp ground... right? :@

We were at Assateague Island a couple of weeks ago. It was extremely windy (20-30kn). A neighbor camper put his flag pole and flag up anyway. It was a very large flag. Very, very large. I spent the weekend listening to it crack in the wind constantly. I can't imagine what it was like to be the tenters in the site next to them. It wasn't shot gun loud but it was louder than the generator they ran all day. I guess you could consider him more patriotic than I, as he flew a flag and I didn't, but I am pretty sure I was considered a better neighbor.

If you want to fly the flag then go ahead and fly it. If I decide not to, and most people in the campgrounds do not fly it, it doesn't make you more patriotic

We like to fly ours every chance that we get. On long trips we have one attached to our back ladder while traveling. At games we have both the American and team flags raised.

ours goes up along with the USAF flag at each campground we visit!

Get a scrap piece of rebar at a construction site.

OP, we regularly fly the flag while camping and at home it is up 24/7 and lit.

TomHaycraft, to fly flag on the PVC pole, I use a piece of rebar about 4 feet long. Drive into the ground about 18 - 24 inches. You can get the rebar at home depot or lowes. Also get a washer to place over the rebar on the ground, then place the PCV pole over the rebar and on top of the washer. The PVC pole will spin easy on the washer.

I mounted a metal adjustable flag pole holder on my pin box to fly ole glory from. I am in the process of fabricating a LED light holder for lighting her at night.

I scouted the park a week ago for one of these to see what they used, hopefully I'll find one Memorial Day weekend when I have the trailer out for my next trip.
