Ford C-Max Plug-in Hybrid

I have a fifth wheel but I drive my Chevy Volt to Provincial Parks occasionally. No issues at all with charging at the campsite.

As you're probably aware, you get a $5808 rebate from the Ontario government that can be used for the down payment which offsets much of the cost difference.

Yes, that's why I'm considering the plug-in version instead of the common hybrid version which (to my understanding), doesn't come with any province credit... Glad to hear that you can charge them. I didn't realize Chevy Volt is flat towable...

The Volt isn't flat towable, unfortunately, but I have sometimes driven to the campgrounds to visit or stay with others and I charged it then.

We looked at both of the Ford C-Max models. We decided on the Energi.

Since the Energi comes with heated leather seats you really need to compare it to the SEL model which has the same. Base prices on those 2 are about $4500 apart. That difference is easily made up with the tax credit!! You do lose some cargo space in the Energi due to the bigger battery.

We are getting incredible gas mileage with our plug in Energi. We have driven 2000 miles since purchasing it in April. It came with the original 14 gallon dealer's tank. We have only purchased an additional 7 gallons of gas, and we still have most of it in the tank!! We are averaging between 125 to 135 mpg!! We do lots of errands of 20 miles or less, and then plug in again. If you were consistently driving much further between charges, then your gas engine would kick in more than ours does!

We have been able to plug in at all 3 campgrounds we have towed it to. One was a county park, one was a state park, and one was a National park. You just have to position your RV so you have enough cord to plug in, since Ford does not recommend you use an extension cord.

Ford also just sent us an additional $775 because they have adjusted their projected fuel economy down a couple of mpg!!! Laughed all the way to the bank!! :)

It is easy to tow and has become our favorite daily driver while the minivan and truck sit in the driveway!! Do be sure to install a charge line with either model.

We would highly recommend the plug in C-Max Energi over the regular C-Max hybrid!!

Do you plug into 30A or 50A socket?

At home we plug into a dedicated standard outlet. At the campgrounds there has always been a regular 15 amp outlet beside the 30 and 50 amp. If not you could use an adaptor on the 30 or 50.

Our minivan and truck sit most of the time as well.

We've had the Volt for a year, put 15000 miles on it, 10000 of those have been electric. Lifetime MPG is 84.66 (2.78 L/100km) and climbing. :)

Does Ford USA covers the warranty if purchased in Canada?

..Sounds like its almost a no-brainer decision, if there's a tax incentive that will cover most of the additional purchase price of the Energi (plug-in) version. Only thing you have to consider/think about, is if you can live with the loss of some space inside due to the larger batteries the Energi version has.

We have a 2013 Fusion hybrid, which has same basic hybrid drivetrain as the C-Max. When we bought it over a year ago, plug-in Energi versions of the Fusion hybrid were very difficult to find, almost non-existent at that time. Also, tax incentive wasn't as good or as easy to get as yours. Sooo, we went with the regular hybrid version. Our main reason for getting it was the ease of flat towing, anyway, not so much mileage. That (mileage) was just a very nice, added bonus.

Its been great, have absolutely no complaints. Mileage is unbelievable as already mentioned (I average 48-50 commuting to work and back every day). Its a blast to drive and really like the looks of it. And, you just cannot beat how simple and easy it is to flat tow. No fuses or battery to disconnect, no crazy procedure to go through with the tranny when hooking up, no stopping every few hours to go through another crazy procedure, none of that mess. Just hitch it up, put it in neutral and go.

It is also really, really nice to have at campgrounds and parks, since you can ride around almost totally silent (and emission free), without bothering other campers as much. Its almost like having a big, very comfortable golf cart to ride around in, haha. :)

As already said, you definitely do have to run a charge line for it when you wire up your tail lights, etc. for the vehicle. Very easy and cheap to do though, especially if you do it at the same time you're in there wiring up the tail lights, anyway.

Gotta be careful with that silent thing. We keep running over walkers who didn't hear us coming.
