In this day an age with all the technologies available you would think the aftermarket vendors would jump on the chance to sell noise reduction devises to generator owners...

Lots of solar sellers that would love your business.

Don't need much power in the rain. That is what a battery is for. Or get a bigger battery.

Actually it's faded kinda pink. Does that make it quieter??

No. But if you keep leaving it out in the sun, someone may steal it. That WILL make it more quiet.

Mine do 3 amps in heavy rain, and 7 amps in leafy shade.

How well do they work in the rain? ๐Ÿ™‚

Lol, that's funny, but true. I got a red one and I think it's pretty quite.

They have. Making genny's quiet generally makes them more expensive, larger, and heavier. Making them cheap, light, and portable makes them sell better. The consumer votes with their wallet. It's that simple.

Chum Lee answered the question. Any device that makes the generator quieter also makes it more expensive.

They can make them quieter just make them liquid-cooled but now the price goes up and the weight and size

They do, Google genset noise reduction boxes in Japan and you'll find all sorts of effective solutions. Problem is, they're not inexpensive to build, far beyond what genset owners here in Canada & the US would be willing to pay. The solution is to build your own, just as I did - pics & videos start here.

The fact that they donโ€™t is a testament to the fact that it isnโ€™t easy or cheap to reduce the noise of an internal combustion engine. Most of what you can do needs to be incorporated into the design of the equipment from the beginning, and those things generally either kill performance or add a lot of weight.

If you don't need AC or microwave a solar system is a silent alternative.

There's lots of options that have been around for a long time.

The big problem however is that an air-cooled engine must by virtue of it's operation be open to the air, add to that the exhaust and that will inevitably result in noise.

In most cases though the soundproofing of the coach is enough to more than cover it up.

In my case(s) my C has a Onan 4KY which lives directly beneath the bed, yes its loud, but I never need it while I'm sleeping so I don't care. My A has an Onan 5500 which is so silent I need to stop and concentrate to tell if it's running daytime with the usual ambient noise and can easily sleep through if I need it running for the A/C or furnace.
