Girard 3rd Gen Tankless water heater

At the risk of sending things into a descending spiral, has anyone heard anything about the latest generation of Girard tankless systems the GSWH-2. I read all the discussions here and it seems the 1st gen was less than ideal and the 2nd worked out most of the kinks, so I'm interested in what the 3rd gen has in store for us

I have a 10 gallon Suburban that gave up on our last trip in November and I'm looking to replace it.

  • Unless they come up with a propane AND electric version I'm not interested. Why should I heat water with my propane when RV parks include electricity in the daily rate? I know some charge for electricity, but very few do for daily says. I host 7-8 months of the year including most of the winter and free hot water isn't all bad, just like free a/c in the summers.

Now I know an electric version is unlikely due to the current required to make it work and limited current on RV electrical systems especially 30A rigs. And my 10 gallon Suburban provides enough hot water even for my DW and that is a major accomplishment. I just turn on both electric and propane and she is good, then back to electric only. Very little propane is used and only then during her shower.
  • After all the problems we had with our Girard tankless, we went back to a standard gas electric water heater. There are other companies that offer a tankless water heaters for RV's and I would look at those if I was interested in making the change.
  • Girard failed to get it right in its first two attempts so I would be leery of their third one. Precision Temps have gotten good reviews and Truma's looks promising.
  • Truma's solves the problems that tankless water heaters have by using a recirculating system. Water heated at the beginning just heads back into the FW tank, so there isn't any waste.
