I use a reflectorized shade cloth I purchased from MegaGreenhouse. They sell custom sized with excellent ventilation for some of the high winds we get and grommets included. Some people here use a black cloth with maximum UV blocking features. But the reflector shade cloth blocks more heat. About a 10-15 degree difference.

We are in Death Valley because we both LOVE THE HEAT. And we LOVE Death Valley. You can keep your 90-100 degrees at 95% humidity. 120 degrees at 5% actually feels much more comfortable! Living in an RV in the desert is possible. Some will never understand. And, we have been called NUTS. We don't care. :)

We are in Death Valley because we both LOVE THE HEAT. And we LOVE Death Valley. You can keep your 90-100 degrees at 95% humidity. 120 degrees at 5% actually feels much more comfortable! Your reflective shade cloth reminds me of something. IIRC, 1st generation Land Rovers (the ones inspired by the WWII Jeep) had an optional special tropical hard top. It featured a second layer of metal about an inch above the top, open all around the edges. This shaded the roof, making it cooler before auto A/C was common. I can recall looking at pictures of them somewhat enviously, driving my '66 IHC Scout 800 in the summer heat. I thought of trying to rig up something similar for the Scout, but never got around to figuring out anything.
