Good Sam "RV Storage Option"

If you are insured through GMAC/Good Sam and have utilized their "RV Storage Option" I'd like to hear about experience. Specifically, did you estimate in advance or do they issue a rebate at the end of the term? Also, is it a hassle to call? Do they send you a confirmation email when you turn on/off your collision coverage? Lastly, are they available 24/7 to call in?

Thanks much!

  • When we had this insurance, we always used this service from Oct to May. I just called (can't remember time or day) and they would remove all insurance except for comprehensive. However, keep in mind that if the rv is financed, you HAVE to get written permission from the lender and ALSO you have to get an Avidavit of Non-Use from the DMV. Upon reinstating the insurance, you have to make sure the insurance company sends a copy of the new insurance coverage to the lender.

  • The lender makes sense, but affidavit of non-use, that is a bit onerous. the sales guy made it sound like just call and turn it on & off whenever you want... devil is in the details. thanks for the feedback.
  • The thing with the DMV's requirement of non-use is that the state requires all licensed vehicles to have liability and prop damage insurance. When you put your rv into storage mode and reduce the insurance to comprehensive only, the insurance company will send a notice to the DMV. Without having the non-use affidavit on file, the DMV will revoke your license.

So do the affidavit first prior to reducing the insurance and then re-instate the insurance prior to removing the affidavit.
