Who is paying for the name change? It has to cost millions. They better not be using Yosemite Conservancy money! So DNC is a sore loser. What did they pay MCA that had the concessions before? The parks belong to the people not corporations.
It's only 51 mil. Gov. waste that much in 30 min. As far as who will pay it, GUESS. Of course it will not be the people :B Fees will go out of site. - dahkotaExplorer

So what rocket scientist NPS administrator let a 3rd party lessee operator trademark the name of a government owned hotel, with the structure by that name being a listed historic landmark?
Blame the trademark office, not NPS, who was not aware of the situation. Once it came to light, NPS was able to stop many more attempts of this kind at places like Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon.
The trademarks in question are for the name on clothes, trinkets, gifts, etc. The company doesn't own the name outright, just the right to use it on merchandise. This would cut into the profit making ability of the next concessionaire - they would not be able to make magnets with the various names printed on them. - DAS26milesExplorer IIWho is paying for the name change? - MurphsmomExplorerIsn't greed one of the seven deadly sins?
- Golden_HVACExplorerOne would think that the terms "Ahwahnee Hotel" would have been property of the National Park, not the lessee. Afterall the hotel had that name well over 100 years ago!
How did the parks service let this company copywrite a name that should belong to the property owners, not the lessee?
Sounds like someone should get fired over that!
Anyway the name change is a cheap way to get around the payment to the old lessee. . .
Fred. - Mortimer_BrewstExplorer IIWhere else does this company operate concessions? A BOYCOTT is in order!
