Gotta a call from the RV Dealer Today

Newbie here from Kansas. Trolled the website for a long time, decided to join. There is a ton of GREAT info on here. Thanks to all who have contributed because it has helped this newbie!

So here is the question: See what you guys think?

7 months ago my wife and I bought a RV travel Trailer over in Missouri. Right after we got the trailer we went down to the county court house and paid the sales tax and property tax on our new RV.

Fast foward 7 mponths. Out of the blue we gety a call from the RV dealership owner where we bought our RV twlling us that they got a call persaonally from the bank where we got our loan, telling them that we had not paid our sales tax. Weird right?

So what's even more strange is that the bank that has our loan has never called us, and now wham, the RV dealer is telling us that the bank is claiming that we never paid sales tax, and the RV dealer owner now wants us to send them personally a copy showing that we in fact paid the sales tax. IS THIS WEIRD? Sounds FISHY!!

ANY THOUGHTS AS TO WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?

    Does your receipt from da county court house contain any sensitive information? I’d cut the dealer out of the blue and contact your bank directly via the “help” number on your monthly statement.

    Could simply be someone’s confusion about you buying from a dealer in Missouri and paying your taxes in Kansas and the bank never getting, or logging, the info from the county or state that taxes have been paid.

    Just send them a copy of your registration paper that the county gave you.Shows sales tax you paid.I would call the bank and get someones name to send it sig required.

    Scam. Call your bank and confide with them directly. Banks don't collect sales tax. They lend money. State BMV will either want proof you paid sales tax at the dealership or you pay sales tax at the BMV. BUT not the bank. Never, never heard that one before. Call the bank.

    Don't know why the bank would call the rv dealer unless they have not received the title yet. In all the states I've lived in you couldn't title and get tags till the state got their bite at your wallet. You need to call the bank and talk to their Title and Lien Dept.

    Thanks to all. Yeah it was really weird. We bought the RV in Missouri, went to the county in Kansas where we live and paid everything that we had to. But I thought is sounded fishy too.

    Tried calling the bank tonight, they were lost, acted like I was from mars or something. So I am going to call them again tomorrow.

    I just have never had any dealership ever try this before. Now a side note, right after we bought the RV, the dealer did give us some hassle about the title for awhile. They had lost it or something. S when this happened red flags and alarms went off big time

    Yeah that's my point too. How the heck can you get a plate if you didn't pay your fees? You cant. I just thought it was weird that the bank supposedly had called the RV place and asked. However in Kansas, the County Treasure will keep the title until loan is paid off.

    I'm thinking the RV dealership is up to some funny numbers scam or something cause it's tax time.

    Funny how scam gets immediately thrown out when the OP did not provide many details of the transaction LOL. Only in a forum.

    If the dealer / dealers finance dept originated the financing, they are the agent for the finance provider and depending on same may be responsible for correcting any discrepancies that come up.

    Don't rely on an internet forum for advice on matters such as this. Why would you not call the dealer back and ask them for a detailed explanation of what's up, instead of people you don't know on a forum who know nothing about the transaction. I doubt an established RV dealer is running a scam to fleece people using sales taxes as a means. That typically carries larger implications as it's tax fraud and most states have stiff penalties for that, especially for businesses.
