HELP! Cargo door lift arm

HELP! One of my lift arms on my cargo door ripped off from the door. I went and bought a new one, but it will not compress down. I was able to get it on the door and camper, but the cargo door will not shut. The arm will not compress. What am i doing wrong?

Thx!!
  • Did you get the right size? Is it attached exactly the same way as the other one? I seem to recall taking my bed apart and couldn't get the arms to compress after reassembly because one of the mounts was slightly out of position.
  • Yes it is the same size. I took it off and holding here in my hands, and i cannot even get the arm to compress down.
  • Will not compress at all? Of just not enough? Sounds like it may not be the same travel length as the old one.
Oops. I was a minute late. Sounds like a bad ( or maybe stuck) strut.
  • Doesn't compress it all. Even just holding it here in my hands, after removing from the camper, it won't compress. When i bought it at the store, i checked all they had on the shelf, and none of them compressed. The lady said it would compress once i mounted it, but it doesn't, unless i'm doing something wrong. Why would the arm not compress now, with me just holding it here off the camper?
  • Gas springs are spec'd by length and weight - you didn't get a 90-pound strut when you were looking for a 30-pound one, did you?
  • Dont'think so. It isn't marked on the spring itself, but the old one was labelled 80lb
