Help me tow a stacker with an Avalanche

Mods, move this as needed.

I just bought a new stacker. Empty it'll weigh close to 10,000 pounds. I have no trouble towing it with our MH, but our lot is small and I'll have to pull it into the lot with our Avalanche. I know there is a product that goes between the truck and the trailer that carries the tongue weight but I can't remember enough to even google it. It will only be used while putting into storage or taking out of storage our empty stacker. I don't want to overload the Avalanche and I can't use the MH due to space constraints.

    If I am understanding what you are saying correctly, you just want to use the Avalanche to park the stacker at your home. If this is the case I would not worry about it, but if you need to tow to a storage lot you may not want to tow that heavy of a trailer.

    The Trailer Toad looks expensive and heavy/awkward. It will do what you want, but might be overkill. Why don't you buy one of the motorized trailer dolly.


    You could load it in the stacker trailer and use it if you get into a tight spot while on the road.

    that's tooooo much weight for the Avy.
    i own a 2007 and my max towing is 7200lbs.

    the newer Avys can tow a little more but NOT 10000lbs.:E:E
    and no WDH will help with that much weight.

    Probably not. But, I mustered up all my towing knowledge and this was the best I could come up with.

    At least we eliminated one thing that won't work. :)

    Last year I replaced the stock Ford hitch on my '13 F350 gas truck. I use that truck a LOT for heavy equipment towing.

    I got from etrailer.com a Curt class V that handles 20,000 lbs. and 2700 lb. tongue weight without WD. Whenever I need to move the Work & Play around the yard for anything, I just hook up and go.

    The hitch is only around $350 and I installed it myself in about hour.

    I'd normally guess you're talking about weight distribution but since I have no idea what a "stacker" is I'd also as an Avalanche owner myself have no idea whether this would solve your problem or not. Nonetheless I personally sure wouldn't tow anywhere near 10,000 lbs with my Av, even if it were just around a storage lot. :E

    If I understand correctly, you are talking about towing to the destination with the MH and then maneuvering into a parking space with the Avalanche?

    Providing you have a class 3 or 4 hitch there should be no problem. You aren't towing it so tow ratings are meaningless. Don't overload the hitch with tongue weight and be cautious about transmission temperature. Don't spend a long time doing low speed maneuvering which could overheat the transmission oil.
