Help with Winnebago Tour auto door lock (air assist seal)
Hello all,
I'm in the process of taking delivery of a new-to-me 2011 Tour. The one outstanding issue standing in our way is the auto door lock/seal feature. In my opinion it isn't working correctly, but the tech says that it is, so I would like to get a second opinion from the experts.
The way the lock works is when the wheels start rolling, an air regulator pushes a small roller in the door frame up into a wedge block - and this is supposed to help keep the door sealed at higher speeds - to reduce air noise and rattling and whatnot. When the wheels stop rolling, the roller gets pushed back down into its original position to allow the door to open again.
Ours does operate this way, however, when the lock disengages, say when I come to a stop at a red light or a stop sign, it pops loudly, like a loud clap or smacking a ruler on a desk. Its very distracting and unnerving. You can imagine that if you were driving on a crowded highway during rush hour and stopping and starting a lot, this would get extremely annoying. Its not deafening or anything but as a new RV owner when I reach an intersection I'm inching up a lot and hearing that thing makes me even more nervous :-\
So my question is two parts:
#1. Should the lock engage/disengage every time you stop and start even while the transmission is in gear? The reason I ask this is because on Newmar coaches the lock engages when the parking brake is off...and disengages when the parking brake is on. Winnebago could be different so I want to ensure this is working correctly. That would at least cut the number of times I hear that crack down dramatically.
#2. Assuming it is working correctly, should I hear an audible crack or slap every time the lock disengages?
The technician at LazyDays claims this is correct but I just can't believe it without a second opinion.
Does anyone have any input/opinions that they can provide? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you all so much!
