Heng's EZ-Mount roof vents

Has anyone tried these roof vents?? They clamp in place with 4 corner screws like the A/C units do. No 28 screw holes thru the roof like normal vents do. Sound like a good idea but cant find any reviews anywhere!
  • The vents I replaced on my campervan in Europe were the 4 screw type ( one in each corner). I have not seen them in the USA?
  • Kind of hard to describe Eternabond tape as just "a tape". Don't be deceived by its' name. It is a vinyl type tape with a thick (almost 1/8 inch coating of a very sticky, thick substance that will fit around screw heads and works great when screws are driven directly through it. Many people do that and then put a dab of Dicor self levelling sealant on top of the screw. Make a nearly foolproof fastening.

I have used it on every seam and penetration on my roof many years ago and it still seals as well today as it did on the first day. I certainly would not call it just "a tape"! :B

I would trust the sealing of Dicor, far more than Eternabond tape around the screws.
Have you had a chance to use Eternabond tape?
I was pretty hesitant to believe the claims about Eternabond but when I was having trouble sealing my roof from the last couple of very small leaks, I tried it. To date, I haven't had any leaking in those areas that were taped. It hasn't aged or loosened and can't surface crack so doesn't need any refreshing like Dicor or other sealants in a tube.

No, But it is a tape and on a flat surface yes, I would agree with you.
That said you are now sealing over screw heads, and four corner seams. I know that the tape is highly regarded, but for screw heads and not flat surfaces I would rather use the self leveling Dicor.

Installing a flanged vent, especially on EPDM, shouldn't be an issue with screw fastening. The flange is held down with compression and the typical installation is to use a butyl tape or other sealant between the flange and the roof material.

Screw holes would have little to do with leaking. If the flange isn't sealed, water will enter into the hole for the vent beyond the roof material. I would have more faith in attachment with screws into the roof deck than clamps to the vent hole framing. If screw hole leakage keeps you awake at night, covering the vent flange and screws with Eternabond tape is a very good solution.

Well not what I found replacing the 14" vent over the Kitchen of our 5er. The factory vent was set on the rubber roof, screwed down and Dicor self leveling sealer covered the screws and seam between the vent and roof. That was the same method I used with the new one. I believe butyl tape contains petroleum products, not what you want on a rubber roof.

  • On the other hand it may not be such a great idea so no one is buying them.:h

Sounds like a great idea. Where can you get them?

Amazon, camping world....but no reviews. Seems like such a good idea that I would expect many buying them.
