Holding Refrigerator Door Open in Storage

We have a new motor home with a home-style refrigerator. Unlike our refrigerator in the old motor home, this one does not have any sort of tabs to keep the doors cracked during storage to prevent mildew. Does anyone have any solutions for keeping the door cracked but secured during storage? The freezer is a sliding drawer on the bottom of the unit.

Don't forget or you will have newspaper print all inside your fridge

Kind of excessive since a towel works fine, but for $9 I like being excessive. My motto, if it it is worth doing, it is worth over doing! 😉

In our Class C (no tabs) - I just put a wad of newspapers inside the fridge when I turn it off, to soak up any moisture; then remove those a day or so later.

Can you run a bungee cord from one shelf in the freezer to a shelf in the refrigerator part? That's what I did with my camper fridge before I learned how to use those little tab things. (sheepish grin)

X2 on the experience talking. We left the doors open, but secured from swinging when enroute from storage to home, approximately 6 miles. That was enough to stress the hinges, and the doors were crooked after that.

We have telescoping rods we place across the shelves while travelling so we don't get suprised when we open the door.

During winter storage we use these rods to prop the door open. Just the right size to reach from the back of the fridge and freezer to the doors and allow about a one inch opening.

You do have to remember to remove them and shut the door if you move the motor home (experiance talking)

Don't put any thing between the fridge & the door gasket as it can make the gasket take a set & not seal,also when you go back to using it the gaskets may not pull back up without using a hair dryer on them to let them stretch & catch .best thing to do is let it air dry for a week & then close the doors. Getting the moisture out will keep mold/mildew out. The icemaker needs to be drained . If you have a home style fridge & you live in cold climates & it has water/ice dispensers you may have stuff bust if no heat is left on in the unit or if antifreeze isn't in it,

Take it out and use it in the garage during the winter. at least you will get some use out of it!

Put something in it that doesn't fit.

The Norcold 1200 series has a clip that slides out on each of the 4 doors. Slide this clip out when the door is open and the clip will prevent the door from closing completely.
