You could cut a cereal box into strips a little bit wider than the fly tape. Set the strips end to end and roll out a fly tape and lay it onto the strips. Then cut off the fly tape container using a razor blade and cut the tape to separate the strips. The strips can be taped to cabinet doors or out of the way places. You could even thumbtack some to the ceiling where they won't get in your hair.

How about using the fly ribbon and rather than leave it hang down, tie the loose end up so it only hangs down a couple inches.
Place it out of the way where you don't walk. Or do they not work in a horizontal position?
My DW hates them so I don't have any.

Okay, a slight hijack of this thread, because I'm not talking about flies, but about wasps.

I've tried using smallish plain brown paper bag filled with plastic bags to give it shape, in the shed to see if it really would work to keep wasps away. I'm totally amazed that it really does seem to work. Used to be when you went in the shed, you'd always get buzzed by a wasp or two. Since I've put in the bag, I've seen exactly zero wasps, and that's been about 3 weeks ago.

Okay, back to flies and other assorted annoying insects.
